If the South did secede, we should defend the right of the cities and blue areas of the South...

...to secede FROM the South and form an archipelago state that would be part of the Union...

To do anything else would be to betray the people living in those areas, since they would be living in permanent powerlessness and oppression if the Confederacy was restored.

1. Good idea. Call it the Kingdom of Jones

in honor of the area of Mississippi where poor whites and blacks banded together to fight against the confederacy.

4. My idea is a combination of that and the idea for a Republic of New Afrika-

Might need a different name, something like "Southern Free State".

2. Nobody's going to secede.

In 1860 there were specific, contiguous states who had a single, unified interest in preserving slavery and that collective reason for trying to secede. Now the schism is mostly between rural and urban areas, and there's no way to divide the country geographically into cohesive countries with similar interests. The county I live in is very liberal; drive 60 miles north and you're in freeperville. But the reasons why a particular area is liberal or conservative are all over the place.

3. Seccession like 1861 isn't really feasible.

If a civil war breaks out, it will be like Rwanda.

5. Remember when Rick Pery wanted Texas to secede? Then when something happens in Texas

he's the first one begging for government help.

6. They won't secede. The ignorant white wingers are too stupid to run a "country."

7. Google "Partition Day, India 1947"

That is similar to what would happen.
