Republicans trying to pass laws that protect drivers plowing into protesters own this violence.

New law would protect motorists who plow into protesters

Drivers in North Carolina might soon be allowed to plow their cars through protesters forming human walls on the road.

A new bill approved by the state House will legally protect motorists who hit protesters blocking the road — as long as they “exercise due care,” according to the News & Observer in Raleigh.

House Bill 330 was approved 67-48 late last week. The bill was drafted in response to protests in Charlotte that paralyzed traffic last fall.

“I became concerned for drivers after watching the recent protests which turned into riots in Charlotte and other cities,” Republican Rep. Justin Burr, the bill’s sponsor, said to Fox News. “In a number of cases the protests-turned-riots resulted in violence and the terrorizing of unsuspecting motorists, their passengers and property.”

Proposed laws would crack down on protesters who block roadways

(CNN)It may soon be legal to run over protesters with your car in North Dakota. But only if you do it accidentally.

Lawmakers in that state are set to vote Friday on a bill that would legalize accidentally running over protesters in the road, one of several new measures across the country that aim to discourage disruptive protests.

Rep. Keith Kempenich introduced the North Dakota bill, which states that if a driver "unintentionally" causes injury or death to someone blocking traffic on a roadway, then the driver will not be liable for damages.

Kempenich said he was spurred to act after Dakota Access Pipeline protesters last year moved to block public roadways, scaring some of his constituents.

'Common-Sense Legislation' Would Shield Drivers Who Run Over Protesters

Drivers who run into protesters would be protected from lawsuits under new proposed legislation in Tennessee.

The bill offered by a pair of Republicans would apply only to instances in which drivers are “exercising due care” when they strike someone “participating in a protest or demonstration” that is “blocking traffic in a public right-of-way.”

A second clause in the half-page bill clarifies, “A person shall not be immune from civil liability if the actions leading to the injury were willful or wanton.”

That distinction sometimes can be fuzzy. Last month, a man drove through a group of protesters in Nashville and wound up with several of them on his hood. He said they jumped onto the car, they said he struck them.

Wanna bet that this driver will claim that this was an 'accident'?

3. i am trying very hard to see the Common Sense in a bill like this. In fact it sounds like

the same Sharia laws also passed. I wish those who like to live under Sharia laws relocate to a country which embraces Sharia laws.

5. Sharia laws tend to control others, mostly women, this is why I call it Sharia laws.

9. Frankly, I can figure this out for myself.

That is why I was asking how you see Republicans making laws that excuse people from driving their vehicle into protester as the same as Sharia law. Other than an attempt to deflect the subject into another, I see no reason for this.

7. I hope the survivors sue the shit out of these "lawmakers" for inspiring violence.

If movie companies can be sued for inspiring copycat violence, politicians who do the same should be too. The plaintiffs may not win, but the enablers should have to face the consequences of their rhetoric.
