A false binary is a choice you DON'T have to make...and these are false binaries.

1) The idea that we have to choose between centering social justice OR economic justice, rather than centering both.

2) The idea that we have to choose between appealing to working-class voters of all races on economic issues OR appealing to the base on anti-oppression issues, rather than appealing to both groups by addressing both sets of issues.

3) The idea that we have to choose between addressing problems within the party, OR focus exclusively on calling out Comey, the Russians, and voter suppression as the cause of the November result, rather than accepting that both played a significant role.

It's time to move beyond false binaries, beyond "either/or" choices that are not "either/or" at all. When we move beyond them, THEN we will truly be "Looking Forward".

The only binary choices we have to make happen in our General Elections. MineralMan Aug 2017 #1
I hope you aren't implying that I voted for Stein or defended those who did. I didn't. Ken Burch Aug 2017 #2

Indeed. I spent a lot of time in the fall begging people not to do that. Ken Burch Aug 2017 #6

In those, either the Democrat or the Republican will win. So, the choice is binary at that stage. Before then, many candidates from both parties can compete in the primary elections. In November, though, the choice is binary, if you plan on your vote being meaningful. Voting for candidates like Jill Stein is useless and shifts the scale, allowing one party a better chance at a win.

The most I've said on that was that we could and should have made a positive case for voting FOR our ticket, rather than simply NOT voting for Stein.

I said that because a lot of people have implied, with no justification, that I'm a secret Green.

When your party loyalty and your motives get questioned over and over and over, it's natural to be a little bit touchy about things.

I try not to treat DU as a personal chat site, unless I post something that is clearly a personal story. I didn't assume that you voted for Jill Stein. Some people did, however, and that had an affect on the last election.
