Why actually did sessions recuse himself?

I see the point of the article below. Given all the other unethical/ illegal things they did .. Why recusal?

Given the collective gold fishesque memory, and our infinite capacity to become numbed to the daily scandals of this administration-it would have made sense te stay involved.

My only guess is that Sessions did not think it through or was intimidated by Comey.

But Trump was right to be shocked when Sessions willingly stepped aside. Though it may have seemed like a no-brainer at the time, the fact that Sessions did the right thing stands, in retrospect, as the biggest surprise of the Trump era so far and one of the only instances in which this administration has lived up to a typical standard of government ethics.

1. The Trump campaign was being investigated. He was part of the campaign.

therefore he would have been investigating himself. Which is certainly unethical if not illegal.

3. Sessions has got to be looking for an honorable way out.

Even as corrupt as this administration is, his careless omission of Russian contacts during the campaign - much like Clinton visiting Lynch on a runway - has the appearance of looking like he is part of something.

Trump whining about Sessions not giving him cover is step one. Now Sessions has to sit tight and when he knows Trump and his crew are legally in deep - that's when he can shake his head and bail!

His book deal alone will seal his retirement!

The new retirement for those over 65 appears to be run for office and really soak and gouge the people. SS is for the little people.

It won't matter what happens in the long run. They don't have a long run left.

9. Sessions has been around for a while and gave up a Senate seat, he wants it back or a federal judge

with life appointment.

He may not be the brightest bulb but he knows an illegal situation and he backed out of the deal.

I'm sure he also had a recording of the whole thing.
