here is a very impressive graphic from 1869. it is famous in certain geekly circles as it effectively communicates in two dimension information from six dimensions.

you can tell at a glance how napoleon's army fared as the thickness of the line represents the size of the army at various points. it makes it clear that it was not any one specific battle that did them in.

the lines to the graph at the bottom show the temperature during the retreat, all below zero (celsius).

needless to say, a very stark contrast between the information conveyed in this graphic vs. whatever the hell benedict donald is even trying to convey.
