You may not have understood Romney horrible speech, but it's pretty simple what he was doing...

He was merely Whitesplaining the positions of Black People BACK to a group of Black People.

Everything Romney said was done in a way that some average White guy who actually doesn't care about the concerns of Blacks in general is supposed to understand about what "decent" Black People are supposed to stand for in this country.

That's something that's only done by a person who has absolutely no desire to connect with his audience. It wasn't even as good a job of pandering that he normally gives to the audiences that he addresses. It's clear that he didn't think that the NAACP was even worth that effort this time.

His point was that, if Black People refused to give him any credit for his fucked up positions, then Blacks as a whole won't find any favor were he to win the White House. I really don't know enough about him to automatically assume that he's too obtuse in actually thinking that he could actually pull something like that off. But, if he did, then he really has no idea what Blacks are like.

Other than showing his pale ass off to Blacks for the benefit of his racist Right Wing base, I have no idea why Romney gave that speech in the first place.

i don't think most racists out-and-out white supremacists.
most need a way to be able to deny the label "racist", to themselves and to others.
the need to be able to say thing like, we've achieved equality so there's no longer a need for anti-discimination laws, etc.

so speaking to the naacp is one of those ways they can say, see, i'm not a racist for supporting rmoney, rmoney's not a racist, he was willing to talk to them, they were the ones who were the bigots because they just booed him, etc.

The speech was nothing but racist fodder, never intended to persuade anyone Black or White. It was theater, so it deserved booing. The people he was actually talking to, Racists, were never going to do anything but vote for him anyway. There wasn't anyone out there going "Oh, I was kind of liking Obama, but now . . . . Oh!! darn those Black Americans! I'm voting for Rmoney!"

with malice aforethought provoked the boo as an insurance policy on the white racist voting bloc.

Sure, no white who liked Obama suddenly switched to liking Romney b/c blacks booed Romney. But there are and were white racists thinking to themselves, "Sure, Obama's a N****r, but Romney a gazillionaire so why bother?" Now they're thinking, "Romney may be a gazillionaire but, damn, if the N*****s hate him, he can't be all bad. Maybe I'll vote for the Not-N****r."

All about firing up the base to GOTV. Utterly despicable and un-befitting a mature democracy. But perfectly suited to a racist, bigoted party.

Up to now he's been a major foot in mouth candidate. Now suddenly he's doing it deliberately out of some nefarious psychological warfare masterfullness?

I think he really thought the NAACP would do no worse than just sit politely on their hands because that's what they usually do when they don't agree with an invited speaker. And he did bus in non NAACP blacks to support him. This all came out in the Ed Schultz show when he interviewed a couple of NAACP leaders.

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

What is the point in calling anyone "pale" as in "pale ass?" That is from the post. If a post that referred to any other race by the color of their skin, it would, rightfully, be shut down for blatant racism. I find this post similarly offensive.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Jul 12, 2012, 12:18 AM, and the Jury voted 0-6 to LEAVE IT.

In this case he proved his total lack of even the most elemental understanding of people who aren't like him with the NAACP. But this isn't the first time he's done this. It stands out more because of the way the crowd reacted to what he was saying. But he's done the same thing with every group he's been in. Even middle class 'regular' Republican white people who have extended an invitation to have him in their homes for a chat with their group. Remember his shuddering revulsion of the cookies he was offered?

One could wonder whey he even bothered to go to that little meet-up too.
