6. Throughout the ages, people haven't changed much. The Founders knew

exactly what could happen only because . . . people can be expected to act much the same way no matter how 'enlightened' their times are.

5. uncanny

I just responded to another post before reading this.
Very remarkable in today's context.

another of one devious scheme after another,
the accusers should be looked at in-depth as well."

7. The 'Electoral College' was envisioned as a check on 'populist democracy.'

Like the 'House of Lords' in England - and our Senate - it would basically serve as a 'benevolent elite' protecting America from democratic 'mob rule.'

When the states required their Electors to simply confirm the majority vote, it ended that 'Constitutional check and balance.'

We should "simply" amend the Constitution to end the Electoral College and codify majority national vote for the presidency.

22. The founding fathers were very wise and thoughtful.

Their words should be required reading for all those who serve in government as a reminder of what they represent and must uphold.

Of course they couldn't foresee a lot of the changes that have occurred over time and some changes need to be addressed by the present government such as the outdated electoral college and the issues of gerrymandering and lobbyists. Also, the partisanship involved in choosing supreme court justices and the length of their terms. And I am sure that during the 1780s they never imagined that the second amendment would be used as an excuse that would allow automatic weapons to be used by those who shouldn't have access to them for many reasons.

Naturally loser 45 already knows everything about everything because his brain is so huuuge and he is "so smart he doesn't even have to pay taxes". He's a historical genius too. In fact his favorite founding father is Andrew Jackson.

27. The " Senate" was conceived as an anti-democratic hedge

Chuck Schumer calls it the cooling saucer. Many people decry the fact of popular election of Senators.

36. The 'house of sober second thought'.

Isn't that really what the Senate is supposed to be? I think the huge error in creating the Senate with two seats for every state is when a state with some 600,000 citizens (Alaska, Wyoming?) has the same Senate representation as a state with 35 million citizens (California).

As for the Electoral College, wasn't that simply a sop to the states, because after all, the Senate is supposed to fill the role of a check on "rampant populism".

31. "probably wouldn't know who Alexander Hamilton was"

Sure they would. They are all flag waving "constitutionalist" quoting Jefferson all the time...
Selectively quoting that is... When I ask about Jackson and Jefferson owning slaves and relocating American indians they kinda sorta change the subject quickly.

Hamilton feared democracy because of people like Trump, the rabble rouser. The Whigs we're formed as a response to the populist fervor of the founder of our party, Andrew Jackson.

He's just the first that has become president.

I hear Huey Long might have been the first but he was assassinated before the election.
