Carrier workers facing layoffs feel betrayed by Trump

Carrier workers facing layoffs feel betrayed by Trump
By DEAN REYNOLDS CBS NEWS June 23, 2017, 6:44 PM

INDIANAPOLIS -- A promise made before Christmas is fizzling before the Fourth of July.

In December, then-President-elect Trump told hundreds of workers at the Carrier manufacturing plant that he had worked out a deal to save their jobs.

But it's not working out that way. A steady downpour today did little to wash away the fact that the jobs of 600 union employees are going south.

"They're going to Monterrey, Mexico," said Robert James, president of the local union.

Reynolds said he felt betrayed, since Mr. Trump told workers during his December visit to the plant that 1,100 jobs would be saved.

Blasting companies for moving American jobs abroad was a feature of the Trump campaign, and saving the Carrier jobs was touted as a sign of Mr. Trump's bargaining prowess.

"You're going to have a good Christmas," he said at the plant.

But the truth is that 400 of the 1,100 jobs Mr. Trump mentioned were white-collar positions that were never going away.

Only 700 union jobs were saved. Six hundred others will be lost, and Carrier is not paying a price. The company actually received a $7 million incentive package from Indiana to keep the plant open with a reduced work force.

"That is what he said was not going to happen," James said. "That's what he told all of us."

"And a lot of these people voted for Mr. Trump" with the understanding that he would save their jobs, James added.

Duane Oreskovic voted for the president, and is among those losing their jobs.

The company makes a profit from the government while doing exactly what they planned to do in the first place!

The people who are shocked by this move clearly don't understand that Trump is a modern day PT Barnum, his admitted inspiration, and they've been swooned by the carnival barkers bullshit!

Minimal retraining required, fresh air, sunshine, free exercise, an average of $7/hour for a 12-hour day (bring the family! make more money and enjoy the togetherness!)... I don't know what they're complaining about.

Sure, crippling back injuries from the constant stooping or losing an arm in the combine won't be covered, but we've all got to make a few small sacrifices to Make America Great Again!

People who voted for Trump, but will lose their healthcare. Morons in West Virginia, Kentucky, Western Pennsylvania and South Eastern Ohio who voted for Adolf Trump, thinking coal mining jobs would magically materialize. Former union workers in Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan who think $35 an hour manufacturing jobs with great benefits will suddenly reappear because Trump says so. And now, these nit wits.

No, I'm sorry. My sympathy is reserved for the people who knew this asshole would be a disaster, and are losing their quality of life. You see, we're all in the same boat, and when morons vote against their own best interests, and those interests align with mine, they're shooting a hole in the bottom of the boat that we're all sailing in.

Fucking morons.

A hard nosed prosecutor looked at a defendant after the defendant said that he should have know the obvious and didn't expect the outcome. The prosecutor said "What did you expect, what did you really expect?".

People that believed and voted for Trump after his history of lying and deception was made clear to them and those people are now facing negative consequences are getting what they voted for - except the expected the bad stuff to happen to Muslims and undocumented Mexican immigrants.

If they had educated themselves by researching the issue...maybe I would be sympathetic! We have a wonderful choice here in America...we can educate and research any issue...but many do not and then wonder why they got slapped upside the head!!!
