The universe doesn't joke around. The officer who saved bigoted, homophobic Rep. Steve Scalise during baseball practice was a black lesbian.

1. I liked and retweeted

When he first posted it. I had no idea it had gotten that popular but glad it did. I love Mr. Takei and his tweets are always fantastic.

16. It's a shame we can't hear him speak those messages though.

I once heard someone, maybe Rachel Maddow, say that she'd enjoy listening to George Takei reading the phone book.

6. He once called HIMSELF "David Duke without the baggage"

So, you know, he's got that going for him. Which is nice.

9. Try the New York Times.

It's an obscure little publication on the East coast. December 31, 2014.

14. Perhaps you could provide a link.

Hint: As you're composing your response, there's a little rectangle just above that says "link." You can click it and then paste in your link.

But if you mean this, I already knew about it and it's probably true, but it's weak because all it essentially says is that he supports conservative policies (duh) but doesn't have the really bad reputation that Duke has. And even then it's easy to refute because it's hearsay and something that a third party "thinks" he meant. I wouldn't state it as fact in a debate against a Republican.

----------------------------------------------------

Stephanie Grace, a Louisiana political reporter and columnist for the past 20 years, first with The Times-Picayune in New Orleans and now The Advocate of Baton Rouge, recalled her first meeting with Mr. Scalise.

“He was explaining his politics and we were in this getting-to-know-each-other stage,” Ms. Grace said. “He told me he was like David Duke without the baggage. I think he meant he supported the same policy ideas as David Duke, but he wasn’t David Duke, that he didn’t have the same feelings about certain people as David Duke did.”

----------------------------------------------------

You and I are on the same side, but I'm a big fan of arguing properly and honestly without resorting to fallacies or trying to mislead. It's not necessary when you have reality on your side.

15. It's weak?

You can spin it any way you want, I suppose. I just pointed out that he said it. You seem to have gone from "He didn't say it" to "So what if he did?" Either way, it was reported in the NYT from a named source and to my knowledge Scalise has never denied it. If you need more verification than that, you're on your own.

25. I took the baggage comment to mean he's like David Duke but no one talks about it

But how can you be David Duke without baggage? How stupid.

18. I wonder if any of his family

have had the decency to seek out his life saver in order to thank her. I also wonder if, knowing he owes his life to her, he will -- like other previous homophobes who discover their son or daughter is gay -- have a change of heart. Or is he just too hateful a person?

19. He's a politician with a constituency that elected him

And that constituency is just as racist and homophobic as he is, if not more.

Will he have a change of heart? Only if it's politically advantageous.

27. Yes, David Bailey. He threw out the first pitch for the dem/rep ballgame the next day...he was

on crutches, which somebody held for him for a couple minutes.

He was applauded vigorously by the large crowd there, but I couldn't tell from the camera angle whether or not he got a STANDING ovation.

(well, I sure hope he did, like, seriously)

30. Aw, that IS so sweet, Iron! That's the footage I saw, except they cut before the camera

pulled back - the people ARE standing, right? It's a little fuzzy for me to tell...

Poor David, there's a perfectly good chance he's never been on crutches before, eh? It ain't easy! Plus recovering from wound (I just googled, he was NOT shot, but did suffer an injury) plus the trauma of it all...I hope he gets a big ole promotion is treated like a hero from here on out!!
