WH-insider: Trump hates being POTUS but doesn't want to go down in history as resigning.

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/06/16/donald-trump-justice-department-succession-plan-239652

But Trump, too, is cognizant of the comparison to Nixon, according to one adviser. The president, who friends said does not enjoy living in Washington and is strained by the demanding hours of the job, is motivated to carry on because he “doesn’t want to go down in history as a guy who tried and failed,” said the adviser. “He doesn’t want to be the second president in history to resign.”

----------

I said it here on DU a while ago: If we could pitch to Trump that his resignation will make him look good, he would do so in a heartbeat.

Maybe... "What this country needs is stability! Your noble sacrifice will break the Washington-gridlock and get this country back on track."

1. He not only hates being POTUS, he hates America. Go back and view his campaign speeches.

He loves and admires dictators, coal miners, and grabbing pussy, and lying about himself and his wealth.
He seems to hate Obama, Hillary, poor people who need healthcare, the press, and anyone not white, Christian, and anyone note stupid.

His speeches and his tweets say it all. He also can't take the pressure of knowing that most people despise him. I fully expect him to have a huge breakdown and be forced to resign. The GOP system is never going to find him guilty of anything. And for that they should all be run out of governing.

10. What's wrong with coal miners?

That's Un-American? Why?

My grandfather was at the Ludlow Massacre that started the union movement. Who the hell do you think Mother Jones was? Here's a hint, she was not named for the magazine.

I am actually offended. How old are you?

Poster sure did not connotate them with positive things. Coal miners are union and if we actually got back to supporting labor like good Democrats, they should be supporting us.

Hate is for people capable of such sustained focus on their targets. He's all about himself, a big fat blob of needs.

No need to demonize such a flawed person with imaginary ones.

of how he'd go down in history when he colluded with Russia to get rigged into the wh.

That's how he's going down in history.. as the biggest incompetent, perverted, stupid asshole to ever slither in.

But the idea of 45 exiting office via a state funeral isn't so far-fetched, given his lifestyle choices: fatty foods, lack of exercise, high stress. Whether it's a massive myocardial infarction or cerebrovascular accident, he could leave office with his dignity intact.

And Melania looks good in black.

His redeeming qualities are his stupidity and narcissism. He is too stupid to know how stupid he is.

Pence would be worse. He is a more polished thief, bigot, and liar.

Maybe a self-defeating trump, exposing all the gop as thieves, bigots, and liars, is the lesser of the evils America faces.

Hi,

It is some comfort to see Trump struggling in the job, without dignity. His defensive sackings and threats of Nixonesque 'tapes' are all part of the picture he cannot avoid presenting to us.

President Obama was right, when he said that Trump does not know how to do the job.

14. There is a path to redemption... if he'd be smart enough to take it.

There are steps he could take to do a fair bit of salvage.

1. On healthcare, he's already on record for a better and cheaper plan for coverage... so, instead of going this shadow route of total repeal without the promised replace, go all out with a bipartisan improvement plan. Get the Democratic Party wing involved, and draft universal healthcare coverage that covers all non disputed conditions with particular focus on free preventative health care, and health care coverage that covers the non-partisan medical causes of Bankruptcy such as heart disease, stroke, organ transplants, cancer, diabetes, kidney disease). Draft it in a way that allows states and insurers to cover remaining, non covered conditions which will make those insurances MUCH cheaper since they don't also have to pool money to cover the high $$ items they currently have to cover. Sure this will kill off some of the Republican congress critter support, but will draw in Democrats to cover those gaps and have a REAL comprehensive and bipartisan healthcare bill that he'd promised.

2. On his immigration Crusade.. start going after businesses.. Fine and jail some CEO's and HR managers of companies that EVERYONE knows hires on and abuses undocumented labor.

3. Just keep to his own promises on infrastructure building programs.

4. He wants to prove that he's not in Russia's pocket? Lead a crusade to protect our elections process. Get out of this secretive defensive mode and go on the offensive to get laws passed that opens up transparency, verifies vote counting, and again, get Democrats onboard with him.

Granted, I think there's better chance of pigs flying our my ass than any of this happening, but there IS a way forward for him if he'd just be smart and brave enough to go at it.

Pence is just as screwed up (in a slightly different way), but he knows where the levers of power are. That makes him even more dangerous than an obnoxious nutcake without a clue, leading an administration hobbled by its own incompetence.

Can we survive it until 2018? It looks like we have no other option but to try.

And since Pence is such a loser himself, I want il drumpf to stay and watch his numbers to go down. To watch himself being ridiculed and compared unfavorably to Nixon every hour of every day. To be abandoned by the party. To have no way out. When justice finally catches up with this administration, it will be a black hole that hoovers up the entire leadership of the traitorous, corrupt, r party.

30. Republican Trump-Pence is the apex of 40 years of Republican branding & media saturation.

Weld the Congressional Republican brand to the Trump-Pence Republican brand. Call all of them Republicans at every opportunity.

Republican Ryan is hated by Trump's hard core base. Republican McCONnell almost as much. When tRump goes, his core base will turn on Republicans. Many will never vote or never vote Republican again. Jack that up by referring to them as Republicans as often as possible. It is only telling the truth.

Insist that any VP appointees (whether Pence goes first or second) must be moderates (like Ford & Rockefeller were moderates), or Congressional legislative activity will grind to almost a halt.

And that Trump is the actual face of the Republican party unmasked. He's who they really are.

Still, people like Franken think having Pence instead of Trump will really hurt the rest of us.
