Archaeologists Discover Fully Intact 17th-Century Belief System In Ohio Congressman.

COLUMBUS, OHóMarveling at how well preserved the archaic opinions were, a team of archaeologists from the Smithsonian Institution announced Thursday the discovery of a fully intact 17th-century belief system in Ohio congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH). ďItís just extraordinary to come across a perspective that dates back to the the mid-1600s and shows absolutely no signs of decay,Ē said Dr. Claire Goedde, explaining that while itís not uncommon to encounter partial remains of convictions from that era, itís exceedingly rare to recover a specimen this pristine. ďAll the 400-year-old viewpoints remain almost completely untouched, from religionís place in society to the rights of women to the attitude toward science. I can only imagine the insights this single sample will provide as to how people who lived centuries ago saw the world around them.Ē Goedde added, however, that the congressmanís belief system was fragile even in near-perfect condition and could deteriorate rapidly if examined too much.'

He should become Trump's number one witch hunt consultant.

7. One has to wonder what it would be like to live in a district that would vote him into office.

Could someone please post up a map of his district so that if I ever have to drive through it I can keep my windows rolled up and my doors locked and not stop and engage in any conversations.

8. Boundaries for Ohios 4th United States Federal Congressional District.

The congressional district was redrawn from the previous district to stretch from Lima, to include the northwestern suburbs of Columbus, up to Tiffin and Elyria on the shores of Lake Erie.

11. I'm the "lucky" one that lives in his district.

The only reason he keeps getting re-elected is because of his family's wrestling heritage in the county. That and the fact that this county and area mostly vote republican.

Had enough of people voting against their best interests, crumbling roads and ever increasing snow every year. Almost forgot - too many bible thumping bigots.

25. The very liberal town of Oberlin, Ohio is in this district ...

Home of Oberlin College, the first college to admit blacks and women in the US.

Completely overwhelmed by the rest of the district.

I spent my high school years there. I had a part-time job at the local newspaper, whose editor later became a liberal congressman. How times have changed. Ohio is actually a rather purple state. Jordan is much more conservative than the state is as a whole.

13. Mildly amusing but kind of stupid since the 17th c. was...

probably at least if not more enlightened than the 21st c. A great century for atheists, libertines, cultural relativists, and scientists.

16. Well..

Later in the late 16th century, yes, but commonly it was quite intolerant until that transitional period.

"In 1633, chief inquisitor Father Vincenzo Maculano da Firenzuola, appointed by Pope Urban VIII, began the inquisition of physicist and astronomer Galileo Galilei. Galileo was ordered to turn himself in to the Holy Office to begin trial for holding the belief that the Earth revolves around the Sun, which was deemed heretical by the Catholic Church."

.......
"As its most distinguishing feature or marker, the 17th Century marks the culmination of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation developed by the Protestant and Catholic Churches:
- intensely emotional expressions of faith or belief
- religious warfare, persecution, and suffering

The Reformation refers to the rise of Protestant Christianity, which peaked in intensity in Europe during the 1600s... The Puritans, Presbyterians, and many other Protestant sects (including early Baptists) rose during the 17th century."

18. 'Gotta love The Onion.

Although it's getting more difficult every day to distinguish The Onion's style of humor, from actual "news" from an actual "Republican".

They seem to crossover more and more each day. Silly, ridiculously antiquated beliefs seem to be the "new" trademark of the Republican party. Trump seems determined to turn back the clock to post-World War II America, where every MAN could get a good paying factory job (or working in a coal mine) that could support a family of four, while the WOMAN of the house cooked, cleaned, and raised the children. These were the halcyon days aged Republicans yearn for again, when the 'red menace' was a thing to be feared, when we added "under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance to combat those evil red devils, and gays and lesbians hid themselves, for fear of being beaten senseless by good, red-blooded Americans.

It might be heavily sarcastic, but I think they're really trying to turn back the clock. For them, progress was alright for a while, but it went on entirely too long. South Park's "member berries" episode covered that wonderfully. I don't often watch South Park, but that one caught my eye. Everyone is caught up in the wave of Trump's nostalgic look back, when America was "great", and how we - as Americans - have to "Make America Great AGAIN"!

Sorry, Trumpanzees, time waits for no one, and to quote Robert Zimmerman, "you'd better start swimmin' or you'll sink like a stone, for the times they are a changin".

24. Priceless.

Just heard about a book written by a famous creationist which features a picture of Noah as a gladiator fighting .......TRex!

The book says that Noah had pairs of dinosaurs right there on the ark. Will include the Amazon link reluctantly because don't want to promote this ignorance but the book cover is hysterical. Wonder if Betsy DeVos reads it at night.
