Kushner donated to Senator Cory Booker's races as far back as 2009...

https://www.aol.com/article/news/2017/05/31/nj-sen-cory-booker-campaign-donations-jared-kushner-ivanka-trump/22118536/

"On Monday, the International Business Times reported that Kushner and other affiliated donors "delivered more than $41,000 to Booker's Senate campaign in 2013." The article sites data compiled by PoliticalMoneyLine.com.

In fact, Politico released a story about one fundraising event for Booker that year which was hosted by Ivanka Trump and held at her Manhattan home.

The International Business Times piece goes on to reveal that, in 2009, Booker's mayoral run was boosted with a $20,000 contribution from Kushner, based on state records."

1. This seems to be getting a lot of push...

This says more about the Trump family's contributions to Dems than it does about Sen Booker. I mean, why are they donating to the "enemy?" Now, if they can find some quid pro quo, maybe I'll listen, but for the most part....I don't care.

3. It is suspicious that Booker is really soft-pedaling the bad Jared Kushner news right now.

Adam Schiff was quick to call for his security clearance to be reviewed and suspended. Booker still hasn't called for that.

I'm pretty sure most Democrats don't have the Trump family as contributors.

5. Really?

The Kushners were registered Democrats at one time IIRC. It has been a long term trend for wealthy donors to contribute to both sides. The partisanship we know now didn't used to be so strong. The old school meme was for wealthy donors to grease both sides.

9. By itself, it's not much. But Booker is trying very hard not to be critical of Kushner right now.

Most Democrats are not giving Kushner the benefit of the doubt, as Booker is.

I totally agree with you about wealthy donors, but Booker's recent behavior deserves some scrutiny.

Neither one said anything supportive of Kushner.

You are deliberately distorting Booker's position.

49. This doesn't sound like he's trying very hard:

"Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, described the latest allegations involving Kushner as "serious" and called for a thorough investigation.

"He needs to answer for what was happening at the time," Booker said. "What's worrying me are the patterns we're seeing. So one is this administration not talking about our values, cozying up to authoritarian leaders. And the other pattern we have is just a continuous drumbeat of inappropriate contacts with the Russians.""

You predicate your entire premise on a logical fallacy... post hoc ergo prompter hoc.

The narrative you share with others who allege "concern" about Booker's purity is creative at its best.

40. What is suspicious is supposed Democrats casting aspersions on Booker

because he received donations from a DEMOCRAT eight years ago.

Hillary and Chuck Schumer both received donations from Kushner, who was a lifelong Democrat, whose father was prosecuted by the Republican Chris Christie.

50. Right. I agree. I have no reason to believe that there wasn't something these people wanted out of a

Booker administration, but it could be as simple as his platform fitting their needs. That itself may say something ugly about his policies, or it may simply reflect the complicated terrain of politics that makes winners and losers by virtue of shifting priorities.

I'll definitely need more before I condemn him for taking campaign donations. I have a problem with this broken system in itself, but Booker is hardly an isolated case and doesn't deserve to be targeted alone for that.

one with a future in the party if things go well.

Donor money is a sad reality in our present political climate. Again, show me the quid pro quo. Booker is in line with other Dems in the Senate that are pushing to continue the investigations while not openly going too far with his rhetoric. Hell, many donors give to 'opponents' to use in discussions like this one, to weaken them.

I get it, you don't like Booker. I need more than this to start attacking him.

I think it's fair to ask questions of why he's such a softy on Jared Kushner right now, compared to other Democrats, especially given the history of Kushner donating to his campaigns.

12. Kushner was a big Democratic donor before 2015.

I don't mind if Booker took the money, Kushner is one of the wealthiest Democratic developers in NJ. What concerns me is if Booker will go easy on him and it seems that he might. But, Booker is just saying we need to be cautious which is fine but if he starts running interference for the Kushners then it is time for him to be primaried. We aren't there yet.

ETA I have been a life long NJ resident and democrat so I have some standing in this fight while most that are against Booker do not.

same for Elizabeth Warren....she will be branded "Pocahontas" to the GOP faithful, and the GOP will play up that she was once a Republican to sway doubt with the Democrats.
If enough progressives/liberals/democrats fall for the GOP labeling, we are doomed with lesser candidates. The GOP has always hit our strongest candidates hard and they are masters at public manipulation.

Oh. And they often do this by social media...like FB, Twitter, and message boards....
