Clint Watts on Chris Hayes just said Comey turned down senate hearing b/c he would want open hearing

So Hayes is interviewing Watts who just said most likely the reason he turned down senate hearing is he would want an open hearing so the American people were included, not getting it thru leaks. Also probably because Comey would be wanting a little more time to see how it all plays out since things are happening so fast.

It is much appreciated.

I agree with Watts. I think Comey's ego wants to wage battle with Trump in an open forum where he can speak to the entire American public.

Trump's really going to regret firing Comey, methinks...

all too much already. As far as I'm concerned if it's true that he wants another chance to manipulate us, he shouldn't have it. You're fired, Comey. We'll let you know when and where to appear.

Most Dems were smart enough to realize that if Comey were pushed out, anyone DT appointed -- anyone who would agree to a DT loyalty oath -- would be much, much worse.

DT was the one who fired Comey, and he did that because he wanted to stop the investigation that Comey has been pursuing.

I want Comey to appear in public and let the whole world know how DT was trying to get him to swear loyalty to DT -- not the Constitution that they're both sworn to uphold.

the Republican controlled committee's request to appear because he was angling for a formal subpoena in some ass-covering maneuver.

That changes things, and he will be required/safely able to disclose more under oath should the committee be willing and able to ask the right questions. A big question. Republican members are still involved in the largest corruption ever to face our nation, some may face potentially very serious legal problems themselves, and certainly the threat of loss of career and power, and huge: much important information is still classified.

The Republican-controlled committee will still use this to allow him and them to spin a dishonest tale to a national audience. Let's remember they did just this when he testified that years of hugely expensive and intensive investigation into Hillary found ABSOLUTELY NO ILLEGAL activity, or as he chose to put it, nothing that prosecutors would choose to prosecute. He was "forced" to step outside his duties to spend several minutes commenting on sloppiness.

This time the corruption will be focused on an attempt to patch up their and his shattered reputations -- and undoubtedly to gain public support for avoiding prosecution. For sure the main purpose of their "requested" appearance was to grab media coverage for their own ass-covering. Comey's playing it to be mainly for his own purposes.

And let's not forget, it is possible that Comey colluded, either actively or passively but knowingly, with others to throw the election. Or has legal involvement in other crimes.

We need a special prosecutor and, until we have one, to do nothing to help them spin and otherwise maneuver their way out of this one. Patience. Smarts.
