The Trump Effect: Make America a Poor Investment

Silicon Valley expands south for access to skilled engineers struggling to enter US

May 3, 2017 - Hannah Kuchler in San Francisco, Aliya Ram in New Delhi, and Jude Webber in Mexico City

Donald Trump’s pledge to clamp down on immigration has soured relations between Mexico and the US as the new president looks to build a border wall between the two countries.

But his moves to restrict how many highly skilled immigrants can enter the country may benefit America’s southern neighbour, as technology outsourcers from India, Europe and the US eye Mexico as a place from which to service US clients struggling to recruit software engineers.

Tech Mahindra, one of India’s largest IT service companies, says it will double its operations in Mexico in the next year to 18 months if the US makes it more difficult for Indians to get skilled H-1B visas.

Arvind Malhotra, global head of strategic accounts and South America, said: “We’ve been having several conversations that we want to ramp up the operations in [Latin] America — especially English-speaking operations — because of the current administration.”

It is considering nearly doubling the size of its 110-strong office in Mexico ...........

1. Apparently you have to subscribe to the Financial Times to read that story.

I can see from the excerpt that American companies will find a workaround to getting cheap engineers, but I would have liked to read the whole thing. Not gonna subscribe, though.

3. Ling time trend

Motorola several years moved all of its repair work on two-way radios from Illinois to a brand new facility just across the border. Now radios a dealer sends off for repair go to a warehouse on the US side then get trucked across the border.

Price for repair didn't drop a bit, of course.

If a company or agency wants or must had US based service, such as federal government agencies or those with sensitive jobs, they must specify US based service in the contract when a system is adopted.

These are true high-tech skilled jobs where a technician uses test equipment worth hundreds of thousands to diagnose, repair and reprogram some very high-end and high tech radios.

4. its a crying ass shame

that we don't have any way to get rid of this cancer on our body politic

As long as the house and senate are in the hands of the CONs there is no way we get rid of him/them.

if he up and dies we're stuck with pence and believe you me he is worse, if thats possible, than tRump is

America please wake up and do something like maybe as simple as Voting this next time
