FLOTUS Rosalynn Carter, advocate for the mentally ill

I attended a day-long continuing education seminar yesterday, during the course of which Rosalynn Carter's strong advocacy for de-stigmatizing and providing treatment for mental illness was mentioned. Younger DUers may not know of the work she did before, during, and after her years in the White House. She was a wonderful, dedicated First Lady. The youngest of her four children, Amy, was 9 years old when her husband was elected, but Rosalynn moved right in and rolled up her sleeves without missing a beat. Here she discusses the issue of mental health:

could use someone to advocate for their mental health since it's clear he's mentally ill and she's an enabler.

He is a wonderful human being. I have read that he said that the smartest and best thing he ever did was marry Rosalynn.

That was the year Raygun's HHS cuts threw thousands of mental patients on the street, where they became part of the homelessness crisis of the 1980s.

Thanks for posting this, Tanuki. Had never seen this footage before.
