(26,218 posts)President we have ever had. Period. He has especially been that since he left office.
I am not dissing Obama, who I do respect and admire, but at this point he is not at the same level as Carter.
I'm old enough to remember Carter's Presidency. He was treated very badly by the press, and given almost no credit for his actual accomplishments. He is the one President I wish I could meet.
I've been in the same room when Obama gave a speech, so while I didn't directly meet him, I've sort of. Also been on a rope line and shaken Bill Clinton's hand.
I would walk across the street to spit on any of the living Republican Presidents.

(218,237 posts)I remember President Carter and the more I learn about him the more admiration I have. And in the succeeding decades, his commitment to service and human rights has never changed. I recently listened to his 2014 autobiography, "A Full Life: Reflections at 90," for the second time - have it on audio, read by the author! - and I recommend it highly. I knew I agreed with him on most things, but he surprised even me with his incisive take on the issues we're confronting now.
I have heard President Clinton speak in person and I have to say he was just wonderful. And I have unending admiration for President Obama, has the intelligence and temperament that were ideal for the job. But I agree, if I could meet any president, Jimmy Carter would be my first choice, too.

(2,030 posts)that had we just listened to what Jimmy was telling us way back then things would be a lot different now. Remember how he was mocked for saying turn down the thermostat and put on a sweater?

(218,237 posts)He was called on less and less by successive presidents - though was actually called into service quite a bit by George HW Bush and was instrumental in establishing a diplomatic relationship with North Korea on behalf of President Clinton - and I can't help thinking we could use his attention to detail and his diplomatic skills now more than ever!

(1,865 posts)But Jimmy Carter is just as precious to me 💖
Funny(NOT) how both were belittled & obstructed in EVERY freakin way, how much they COULD have accomplished with some moderate republikers putting country before party, tho that never happened.
And yet, they BOTH brought Healing,
& calm, reasonable, bold thinking, and the beautiful Vision of who & what we CAN be. True..BLUE..Leaders 💙💙 I LOVE & thank them.
