The death of shame

No one on the right seems to experience shame anymore.

Cruz wants El Chapo to pay for the wall. This is nuts, and yet he's not ashamed to say it.
Ryan wants to exempt Congress from any ACA revisions. This is nuts, and cruel, and yet he's not ashamed to propose it.
Tillerson is the SoS solely to benefit his former employer. This is unethical, and yet he goes about his business as if he thinks he's a public servant.
Kelly admits he doesn't know how to combat the domestic terror threat. This is probably number 1 or 2 on his job description, and yet he admits he has no fucking clue.
We know that Der Drumpfenfuhrer and his family are nothing less than grifters, a la Palin, but better at it. And yet there's no shame for their individual and collective deceit, lies, contempt for other human beings, unethical and likely illegal behavior, etc.
Flynn, Gorka, Sater, et al have no qualms about their divided loyalties.
When confronted with opposition, O'Reilly and his ilk double down on their racism, sexism, generally bigotry, misogyny, etc.
43 declared war on the wrong country and mired the US in Iraq and Afghanistan, resulting in thousands of casualties. And the current administration is trying to decimate the VA, and yet there is no shame.

This list is, unfortunately, endless. At least Nixon resigned and his enablers and others served time. Some have repented, religiously or politically - John Dean, for example. And, in the religious realm, Frank Schaefer. But most have not and in my mind will never.

You would think family members of these vile human beings would call their spouses, parents, siblings out in some way, if only to temper their rhetoric if not actually change their positions. Hell, my kids are pretty vocal when they think I'm wrong in some way.

BTW, if you have a chance, read "People of the Lie" by M. Scott Peck. Written more than 30 years ago, it could have been written this year about 45 and his ilk. Peck was a psychiatrist and also a religious man. I skim over the parts where he talks about faith and such, but he likens the behavior of 45 et al to evil. Plain and simple. Evil.

Also, just started reading "America at War with Itself" by Henry Giroux. Only a few pages in, but I think this is going to be a good read, addressing many of the issues we post and read about here on DU.

Are the other images on his trucks showing white people lynching black people? Good times, hey?

Or a portrait of Dylan Roof? Now there's someone to admire!

Or does he restrict them to black caricatures - Uncle Ben, Aunt Jemima, the Cream of Wheat guy?

And does the guy apologize? Does he say, whoops, my bad? Nope. He doubles down.

If there was a Joseph Welch sort of guy today, the response to his question, "Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?" would be no, nope, no sense of decency at all.
