GOP rep booed at town hall for saying healthcare isn’t a 'basic human right'
By Rebecca Savransky - 04/20/17 09:14 AM EDT

Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-Idaho) faced boos from a town hall audience while defending his views that healthcare is not a "basic human right."

"I just don't think it's a right to have healthcare," Labrador said Wednesday in response to a question about healthcare reform and increasing costs, according to The Associated Press.

People reportedly gathered outside of the town hall hours before it started and shouted for the congressman to "do your job."

The Idaho Republican started the event by saying "I am super popular tonight," according to the news service.

During the event, people also asked questions about topics related to holding President Trump accountable.

Article 25.

7. In Idaho...

there's a contingent who disavow the UN and think it is a communist plot to conquer amerka.

I heard a woman in a doctor's office in Montana, just last week, who during a brief conversation she started but ended by frankly telling me that 'Obama gave Yellowstone NP' to the UN and why didn't I know that? I looked at her stunned and said, "Huh, hadn't heard about that." and returned to my magazine. The other persons in the room just looked kind of wide-eyed and wondering t me as if to say that they were puzzled by that one too.

21. A dump supporter recently

informed me--during an amicable conversation in a doctor's office waiting room--that Obama let Iran send giant oil tankers to Lake Mead in order to fill up with our fresh water.

I asked him--an older gentleman who seemed a nice enough kind of guy otherwise, just not too bright--how the tankers made their way to Lake Mead. THAT gave him pause. Clearly he had never questioned the "news item" and bought it lock stock and barrel because Obama. He replied in a confused manner that he had no idea, but that he read on the internet that Obama was helping create a shortage of fresh water in the U.S. by selling it to Iran in this manner.

Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the U.S., located inland along the Colorado River at the junction of CA, NV, & AZ.

Are they still being stored in Georgia and Montana?

26. I had a similar delusional conversation

Last edited Sat Apr 22, 2017, 07:50 PM - Edit history (1)

over the fence with my next door neighbor who is a big chump fan. We were talking about the possible repeal of the ACA and she was all for it stating it was "a disaster". I asked her who, in particular, was it a disaster for and she, of course, couldn't answer. I then asked about her adult son who has had some issues following surgery for a shunt being placed in his brain. She said he was doing fine and thanked me for asking...then I gently mentioned that I thought she'd be a fan of the ACA because of the pre-existing condition protections that would assure that any future treatment that her son would need for his shunt would be covered and she said that they had insurance through her husband's work and the ACA didn't do anything for them. And, I said "Huh, if the ACA is repealed then pre-existing condition protections for everybody - even folks who get insurance through their employer will be gone. We should all be worried" Her face blanched and she hustled her chump loving butt into the house. I never even got to the part where I got to deliver the bad news of her son falling off their insurance before he turns 26 if the ACA is repealed. Un-freaking-real.

I hear rumblings about Oregon, Washington and California forming their own insurance group - I'd love to see you guys pull that off. All it is going to take is is one example of success and Chumpcare will be finished for good.

9. What we have here

and at all these other town halls where pukes get booed is the result of the mask coming off--the veneer slipping away--so that their true vicious policies stand revealed.

Puke congresspeople have been able for a long time to obfuscate and hide their actual beliefs behind a fog of "compassionate conservatism", phony christianity, poor-shaming, etc. etc. etc., in no small part because they always had Democrats to kick around and blame.

Now they stand, naked and exposed, and their abhorrent actual beliefs and policy wishes are being exposed for the monstrosities that they are.

No wonder they get booed.

p.s. of course those of us here knew all along what they really are about; now everyone can see

I bet a lot of his Idaho constituents don't know Puerto Rico is part of the US and would not hesitate to send him back. Idaho is one of the few red states to set up an ACA state exchange to help their people get health insurance.

One is a vicious, selfish, rabid beast posing as a Congressman; the other is the most popular purebred dog in the United States.

. . . . holds as much sway with me as "Taxation is theft" or "The Ten Cannots".

I shouldn't have to explain to evolved human beings why helping others isn't wrong.

23. Actually, he defeated a Democratic incumbent in 2010

Who had defeated a far right GOP incumbent in 2008. And since then, Labrador's position on transfer of federal lands had not gone over well in this state. His town hall fiasco got wide local coverage. If the GOP manages to implode in 2018 based on a continuation of what's been going on for less than 100 days, the seat could flip back.

18. Not a basic right? well then...politicians should be stripped of their

health plan, which we pay for.

Somebody has to start a movement to force politicians to have the same health care as the rest of us, they should be stripped of their "Universal (Only for Politicians) Health Care" program.

Whatever you vote for us to have you should have...I bet you if someone passes legislation like that then the tune will change immediately.

It is one glaring difference from the GOP. Or it should be.

That healthcare should be a right, and not a privilege. (Like every other western democracy).

But no worries, he and others like him in Congress will improve health care "access". Too bad precious few of his constituents thrown off ACA would ever be able to foot the bill for it.
