In a literal sense, there are lots of things "headed toward the Korean peninsula". They might not be taking the shortest route, but, whatever.

I headed toward the Korean peninsula just a while ago in order to get a cup of coffee. Then, I turned around and headed toward the Korean peninsula the other way around.
