One major with some technological problems was Durham County, N.C., which has more than a quarter-million residents outside Raleigh.
Officials there had technical issues with electronic poll books used to check in voters. As a result, state authorities told Durham officials to use paper poll books, rather than electronic ones, eventually leading to some delays. (Durham was already using paper ballots.)

Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill are blue.

Issues with machines caused lines earlier Tuesday at precincts in Virginia, Clarkes group said. Her group also heard similar complaints from Philadelphia, one of the cities specifically cited by Trump during speeches
[/quote]
Voter suppression in Philly could account for the entire difference between HRC and the president. The GOP regularly sends lawyers out to Philly precincts to challenge votes just to slow down voting and create lines to encourage voters to give up and go home.

(14,047 posts)It does not require programmed vote flipping to throw and election. Selective malfunctions that lengthen lines are enough to keep voters from reaching the ballot. Kids have to be picked up from school, wage workers can't take the whole day from work, etc. Sometimes just seeing the line is enough to reduce turnout where it will matter, other have to give up after waiting hours.
And selective malfunctions don't even have to be "programmed". Just making sure the problematic machines end up in certain precincts or screwing with the maintenance cycle can do the job. All of this can be almost undetectable if you are looking for the wrong thing, or if anyone raising the issue is dismissed as a conspiracy nut.

Spammer's arrest eyed for Trump Russia ties
Rachel Maddow reports on the latest developments in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and the possibility of coordination with the Donald Trump campaign, including the arrest of a Russian hacker in Spain at the request of the FBI.
This Russian Hacker's Wife Says He Was Arrested For Being "Linked To Trump's Win"
Pyotr Levashov, known online as Peter Severa, was detained in Spain over the weekend. His wife says its because of his involvement with a computer virus linked to the election.

As much as anyone, I'd like to nail Trump. But, we are going to have to do better than this to get him. Maybe it will help in future elections.
On other besides, in states that allow early voting, mail in ballots, or absentee ballots without a reason, there is no excuse for waiting until the last day to vote.

(9,090 posts)this is nuts. we're here with this shit because liberals ignore talk radio and this is another eg that proves it.
this is more outrageous shit that should result in jail time for many, and all it would take is for even half those stations yelling about it instead of benghazi and hillary's emails and millions of illegal aliens voting - to sell voter suppression legislation.
red dog 1
(27,792 posts)however, I'm not sure that it's merely that "we're here with this shit because liberals 'ignore' talk radio"
It's a little more complicated than that.
Liberals/Progressives are certainly not as good at creating talk radio networks as the right-wing, conservative Republicans are, and all one needs to do is to turn on the radio any night and, starting at the "top of the dial" & working one's way down the dial, one can hear all the ultra-conservative talk shows, without hearing a single "progressive" network or syndicated talk show...Not a one!
Why Democratic billionaires such as George Soros don't start their own radio networks is a mystery to me....Republicans & conservatives pretty much "own" talk radio, which is very sad, indeed, imo.
For an in depth look at why "Air America" failed, read the following Alternet article from 2010:
"Air America Radio, R.I.P. - It Didn't Have to Be This Way"

(9,090 posts)thanks for the link but..
first of all, it's a monopoly and it's like mom an pop vs wall mart - very lousy odds. they bought up and protect their propaganda monopoly.
if a guy sets up a soapbox across from your house and screams your sister's a whore, your brothers a thief, and your ideas are treasonous and you just stick your fingers in your ears and walk by, how long would it take that even your neighbors might believe some of it?
that's what they've been doing from every corner and stump in the country since reagan killed the fairness doctrine 30 years ago and it has worked because democrats have ignored it.
it's not about trying to compete with it, it's about saying fuck you for lying and attacking my reps and putting a cloud of orange assholes in the white house and trying to kill my planet and clan. then the advertisers stay away and the real market for hate and lies and ignorance shakes out to 100 radio stations in the swamps and 500 common sense fact based talkers and 400 liberals telling truth. or whatever.
the whole market for rw radio is artificial, and they're billions in debt - but it's worth trillions in global warming denial, war, deregulation, tax breaks, supremes, etc.
worse than that, we let 88 major universities support 257 limbaugh stations!

(27,792 posts)which makes it even worse!
(For example, San Jose is a very Democratic city, as are Eugene & Corvallis, Oregon)
You're absolutely right about the fact that Ronnie Reagan's getting rid of the Fairness Doctrine" is a significant factor in all this.

in observing the situation for 25 years, there are not two more talk radio outrage-stimulating words for a prominent dem to utter. and even liberals who don't know know talk radio join in with the cries of "free speech!!"

(9,090 posts)in most parts of the country, like in 40 states with 80 senators, there are NO free easy alternatives to rw radio for politics.
which is why they fight free wifi infrstructure and are preparing to end net neutrality.
most of that russian trolling piggybacked years of talk radio lies and memes - like 25 years of clinton crap.
and the left continues to get their internet ass kicked by a few hundred blowhards dominating 40 red states with 1200 radio stations.
here's a dollar value on it :
at a cheap $1000/hr x 15hrs/day x 1200 stations rw talk radio is worth $18MIL/day or 390MIL$ /month or 4.68 BIL$/ year FREE for coordinated global warming denial, pro republican free market deregulation and wall st think tank propaganda, propaganda, swiftboating, and the hate and fear used to get people to vote republican.

(27,792 posts)Also, by not immediately demanding recounts in all the states that had major voter suppression, "missing votes," "voting irregularities" and the like, Secretary Clinton passed up a chance to actually "change" the outcome of the election.
Asking for immediate recounts in populous states that Trump barely won, such as Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania & others might well have changed the outcome of the election....But she didn't ask for recounts - so we'll never know, will we?
(Jill Stein's attempt to get recounts in MI, WI & PA were "too little, too late," imo.)

(56 posts)Don't have to worry about machine malfunctions. Don't have to worry about insufficient machines. Don't have to worry about being directed to the wrong machine because of your skin color. None of this optical stuff either or they will give you a marker that doesn't record if they see you aren't white. And the election could be properly audited. And I would get rid of absentee ballots. If you want to vote, you have to go there, especially if you have a name that is not clearly WASP. If your name sounds ethnic, or if the return address doesn't have any registered Republicans living there, the ballot won't be mailed to you, or if it is mailed, it will be trashed if you mail it back. Lots of shenanigans happen with absentee ballots. Election workers always cry oops when things go wrong, but anything that can happen by accident can also happen on purpose. I don't trust them. We live in an electronic era. You should be able to have voting stations anywhere, where your eligibility can be confirmed and your paper ballot accepted.

I'm not sure why the OP includes tweets that are replies that Palast chose to ignore. The tweets have nothing to do with voting machine problems and concern the NY primary rather than the general election.
