(9,958 posts)but I don't see:
indefinite detention
assassination
drone strikes
domestic surveillance
tax cuts for the rich
offshore drilling
torture
on that list. I guess the conservatives were lying when they said Obama was the most liberal president evah. Or is that the new Third Way/DLC definition of "liberal?"

(36,457 posts)When Reagan started demonizing the word liberal, dem leadership should have spoken out & said "Fuckin'A we're liberal & here's why!" and then gone on to recite Joe Conservative or the cartoon above. But no - crickets, like so many issues, crickets. And now many dems are on the run from the word progressive, as well as our country drifts further & further to the right.
Love of money is the root of all evil. Until we get money out of our electoral process I don't see how voting can change much. Right now, all I do is vote for the least harmful candidate - not for the one I believe in. And that, I think is why we have such a high number of non-voters. Or maybe I'm wrong & they are just apathetic assholes who don't give a shit. ?

(47,992 posts), or most especially for their mistakes. Anyone who ever thought that about Obama, perhaps because he was induced to be against the War on Iraq, maybe did not know what a Liberal actually is, or didn't know enough about Obama, or they are too dependent in their thinking upon what others say.
Most of us can agree that he is not a Liberal, what we may disagree about it the extent of the necessity, due to his/our circumstances, that prevents for him the luxury of identifying whatever Liberal inclinations that he might have admixed (as it is so with most people, e.g. that Chomsky video around here somewhere in which he says he is a ((true)) Conservative in some ways) with a variety of other perspectives on specific issues and, then, how all of that integrates dynamically into a way forward for ALL* of us.
Just like people on this board but in a much more extreme degree, and though different in that he does not operate under a nom de plume, there are things that he can say and things he can't say, because of the ways that each issue affects ALL* other issues.
*He also does not have the luxury of thinking something other than ALL. And I would like to observe that, though I would prefer a world in which I wouldn't have to figure ALL out either, I have to admit that the only truly effective "solution" to that problem is also the most unacceptable, terror and something that at least approaches genocide against the opposition. And yes, I know that that is the opposition's intent toward us, so a response in kind seems to be justified, another mis-perception, because they win by bending us to their will instead of us sticking to the Liberal ways that make us who we are, no matter who is whatever else, and that includes ANY president.
Just brainstorming here, probably because I have been reading Labor history lately. I guess my point is that people are combinations of things and though there are times in which they must step up and act certain specific ways, trying to box them in is oppressive and it results in divide-and-conquer.
