1. Unfortunately the actual number is probably only around 50 percent

Maybe 60 percent.

25. Totally agree with you!

Look at how few people will even acknowledge anthropogenic climate change much less the eventual extinction of most life. The info is there but folks want to be nothing more than biased, delusional consumers.
Sorry to be DebbieDowner.

Just had a conversation with my neighbor who spent January in the Antarctic studying krill and observing the Larsen C ice sheet. Said (as I've experienced) people get "angry" if you want to talk about it. "Angry!"

They continue to have to deny truth or give a shit about many things.

2. Flew Alaska Airlines for the 1st this past February....

O'Hare to Sea-Tac/Sea-Tac to Honolulu and return flights...have to acknowledge, other than extreme turbulence from Sea-Tac to Honolulu (pilot and crew kept us informed and reassured during complete flight), all flights were professional, well run, courteous and the cleanest (especially the bathrooms) of any I've flown including international.

And this photo of the compassion this employee shows for one of his passengers is proof...

5. My sister and her husband regularly fly Alaska too.

They love it. It has become a pretty good airline.

3. I must admit I am nervous about flying

my cats to Germany if I end up moving there. One of them is my official Emotional Support Animal and the other is her Emotional Support Friend. Germany is a long way and I doubt I will be doing a direct flight.

6. I know that but they are more expensive because of the convenience.

If I go it will be Frankfurt. I am thinking I might have to drug them ( not a well liked idea. )

7. I used to fly Alaska a lot during the 90s from California to Seattle - was always great service...

...but company did pay more and always wanted us to fly United or American.

Love how this guy was so compassionate with the doggie.

8. Most humans are decent

there isn't anything really very noteworthy about this.

Glurge.

Also, how do we even know it's a dog? It could be a reseach monkey, a cat, or even an ocelot.

I don't see any dogs in that picture.

11. ok I'll bite....

1- I agree, most humans are decent. We can debate the exact percentage but most to me means north of 75% or so.

2- Who cares if it's not newsworthy ? GD is not only for serious news. I post these kind of things seldom. If people got a smile during this time of Trumpian dystopia, it's all good in my book. YMMV.

3- Glurge. Ok, whatever that means.

4- I'm assuming that Dona Sarkar actually saw the dog moving around in the container. I'm assuming she took the picture while sitting in her seat waiting for her AA plane to take off. She's a pretty smart software engineer who works for Microsoft, so again I'm assuming if she was not sure, she would simply say "animal".

5- You're right, I see no dogs either. I'll assume Dona is telling the truth. She seems pretty honest to me overall.

Time to lighten up. Seriously. Good day.

13. If you're going to tug at my heartstrings

I need more than what looks like a guy taking a nap sitting by a box.

I need kittles or puppies dammit!

Yes, sometimes the bar gets set too low. You can't go around looking for profundity in everything. Sometimes a crate is just a crate and not a statement on the human condition.

O! how I pine for the common sense toughness of my Great Depression ancestors!

27. I wasn't bold enough to say it, but . . .

. . . now that you've opened the gate. I was sitting here thinking to myself that the guy could just as well be saying "Did they tell you about the snakes on the plane? Well, if the snakes don't get you the rats will. And if the rats don't get you, the horror truly begins."

15. It is always a good idea to tell the folks at the counter that your pet will be in the hold.. tell

as many people as you can... because there have been times when the hold was not pressurized and pets have perished.

16. Oh, c'mon Grumpies and doubters...

I worked at airports for decades and have endless stories of compassion for animals.

Little Sheltie whose owners were military returning from Japan only to find their connecting carrier didn't take animals. We told them to go ahead and we'd take care of getting Api to them. We had to wait overnight, but we fed and exercised the doggie until we could send her on to her destination by other means to meet up with her family. At no charge to the family.

Having a hearing impaired woman show up with her cat in a carry-on, for which we were supposed to collect a pet charge. The woman wrote a note "But she's a hearing cat". I wrote back "You're right!" and waived charges. This was back when you had the freedom to make judgement calls.

The vast majority of people I worked with had nothing but compassion for animals. After all, they're much more wonderful to deal with than a lot of humans.
