Nunes Wanted To Move New American Military Base From UK To Azores. Russia Would Like That:
Nunes lied saying it was to save money. But his idea about the Azores was way more expensive.
So why did he really want to move the US military center from the UK to the Azores... and FURTHER AWAY FROM EUROPE? Hmmm, who wants to break up NATO? Kudos to DU'er MARCUSE for this tip. That’s an option Nunes has called on the Pentagon to consider, because he says it’ll be cheaper in the long run. But the Pentagon study found that moving the intelligence center to the Azores base, called Lajes Field, would actually cost $1.4 billion, as opposed to the $817 million it says Nunes claims.
Alternatively, the cost of building the facility at the Croughton air base in the U.K., the Pentagon’s recommended location, is only $356 million, the study found. It also concluded that Nunes had underestimated the recurring annual costs of the Azores option by $11 million. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/05/27/exclusive-top-congressman-accuses-pentagon-of-criminal-leaks.html

....."Portugal was pleased to acknowledge the appointment, by the US president-elect, of Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) as a member of the executive committee of the Trump’s Presidential Transition Team. Rep. Nunes, who is of Azorean-Portuguese descent, is the chairman of the Subcommittee on Trade of the House Ways and Means Committee and the chairman of the House Select Intelligence Committee. He has been actively involved in a long term solution for the state of affairs regarding the Lajes Field in the Azores. Rep. Nunes’ actions followed the 2015 Pentagon’s decision to downsize the US presence on Terceira island. The decision would save the Pentagon an estimated $35 million annually. Downsizing the Lajes Field, the island’s second largest employer, would significantly impact the local economy. At the time, the President of the Government of Azores, Vasco Cordeiro, accused the United States of being in “gross violation” of the spirit of bilateral relations. A bipartisan group of US lawmakers, led by Rep. Devin Nunes, expressed concern regarding the Defense Department plan, after Rep. Devin Nunes introduced a bill in the House of Representatives to keep the Lajes Field operational." |

11. Hey kittywampus - I just reposted an article on this that I posted two weeks ago and didn't get much
interest on then, but it has new relevance given the latest Nunes scandal and indicates possible Russia connections. I linked to this post of yours in my post so we can share info:
