What Will the GOP Look Like in 4 or 8 Years?

This question has been on my mind today. Assuming there is a GOP left after this debacle, which way would it move? The nutters have been steadily dragging the party to the right for quite some time now. I don't know how it could get any further right at this point. So what is left for our buddies in the GOP? Does it implode, or does someone take a stand and move it back toward the center?

They think they are "all that" right now due to the 1,000 seats they gained. Nothing will change until that number erodes.

5. Do you bring up that '1,000 seats gained' here every day, yeoman6987?

Seems like it.

Those 1000 seats won't help Trump.

Can they maintain their current position or move even further right?

What really got me thinking about this is how many GOP congressmen are bailing on healthcare. That was a major plank they ran on. While they aren't completely abandoning the repeal, they are backing down on its immediacy.

6. "GOP"? What is this "GOP" thing you speak of?

There will be few remaining politicians who will admit to ever having been a member of "that party".

what they must be mulling over right now. If they support a nut job president whose popularity is at 37% and sinking fast, they risk losing big time. I think they've pandered to the far right and were willing to continue until Li'l Donnie created a catastrophe for their party. Now they have a choice: change their stance or die out. I can only imagine how much worse it will become in the next few months. But this urgency is not something they are used to. They know how to play the long game. Changing gears within a couple of years is going to prove difficult if not impossible. And what happens when they do move a little more to the center and the NJs start taking pot shots at them? They have created a monster!

but in Nov 2008 everyone at msnbc claimed we were looking at the death of the republican party. Now they have the presidency and both houses of congress, and are poised to appoint 1 or more conservative supreme court justices. We have to fight for 2018 and 2020, not write them off. Just my 2 cents worth.

15. GOP is in self-destruct mode and they may end up taking US all down with them.

republiCONs are back to their same old dirty tricks that led US to our financial collapse in 2008. This time the financial collapse will be on steroids. The obscenely greedy nearly 20% of the GDP healthcare system will also collapse too. These f'ers have no idea what they are doing other than attempting to make their millionaire, billionaire and corporate masters even more outrageously wealthy while sending the poor and middle class to an early grave.
