He needs every possible charged levelled against him and due to money laundering, his assets need to be seized. There needs to be a VERY, VERY STRONG MESSAGE SENT so that this never, ever, happens again. And it needs to be done quickly.
He is illegitimately occupying the White House. He is no president.

(96,882 posts)Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

or in adhering to their enemies. The whole nation saw orange napoleon invite Russia to hack Clinton's emails. That is asking a foreign power to interfere in an election. The whole nation saw it! And that's just what the unwashed masses know, as of right now. Wait until the investigation is done.
Treason.

(44,922 posts)Have you demanded that Russia be named an "enemy" under the Trading With The Enemies Act? That diplomatic relations between the US and Russia be severed? That travel restrictions be imposed so that the quarter million Americans who visit Russia each year for tourism and business (and the large number of Russians coming to the US for the same purposes) are prevented from doing so? That the billions of dollars in bilateral trade between the countries be suspended?
If not why not? Because without those indicia that a state of war exists between Russia and the US, yelling "Treason" is just a lot of noise.

We all know the Constitution and the definition of Treason.
This would not be treason. It would technically be espionage. Just like the accusations against the Rosenberg's.
But everyone refers to the Rosenberg's as traitors. It's not the Constitutional definition, but it is engrained in our vernacular.
Guess what? You can be executed for espionage just like treason. And, in the end, you're just as dead.

(8,652 posts)Treason is not only a law defined in the US Constitution, but an act that has an English language dictionary definition.
Treason; noun | trea·son |ˈtrē-zən
Definition of treason
1. The betrayal of a trust; treachery
2. The offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family.
As a result, espionage can be an act of treason by definition, but not under the Constitutional application of the law. Certainly, you would agree that if members of the Trump campaign conspired and colluded with Russia to advance a Russian foreign policy agenda in exchange for media leaks that caused the defeat of Hillary Clinton, that they not only broke laws, but they also betrayed their country and a "trust" that we all owe to our nation.
I know that's what I meant when you posted your same remark when I used treason and I think that the OP here is using the word "treason" the same way.

(9,651 posts)You appoint a very competent independent prosecutor and give that prosecutor subpoena powers. You have the prosecutor hold a very comprehensive, thoroughly documented, independent investigation. The prosecutor's job will be to uphold the law and bring charges against anyone that broke the law plus bring back complete credibility to the American election system. It has to be done this way to bring a resolution to the problem plus ensure that the problem does not occur again.

(36,974 posts)IF the FBI comes up with reasons to charge him with treason, that would speed up the removal process, but I think he's toast anyway. Most importantly, we need to take back at least the House, so impeachment proceedings can begin immediately after the 2018 mid-terms.
