"We Must Apologize to the Democratic Party" (from redstate.com)

=snip=

Ever since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, the Republican Party has campaigned on, championed, raised money over the cause of repealing it. “You need to give us the House of Representatives,” they told us, “and we will fix this mess.” And so, in 2010, we gave them the House.

And they said they’d do it, and they tried, and then they told us “You need to give us the Senate, too, then we can really fix it.” So, we did give them the Senate in 2014.

And they passed repeal after repeal, which was promptly vetoed with no possibility of override. “You need to give us the White House,” they said. “That’ll make it a reality.” And, in 2016, the United States gave Donald Trump the White House, and kept the Republicans in power in Congress.

The whole time leading up to this point, however, the Democrats mocked and derided the Republicans. “You have no plan to replace it, to reform the system, to fix the mess” they cried. And, we ignored them, because we had ideas, you see, and we had people pushing those ideas.

So, months after Donald Trump takes office, the Republican leadership in the House presents a bill to the American public, and the response was nothing short of disastrous. You see, the Democrats were right all along. We, very clearly, had no plan.

25. Well he did say this..

"You see, the Democrats were right all along. We, very clearly, had no plan"

And, at the end..

"In the meantime, Dems, this is the one time we’re sorry for saying “you lie.”

It's such a tragedy they get so suckered with brainwashing.. they would be partly responsible for killing those that won't get health care if this would ever pass.

As far as "lies" go.. they better check out trump..

"Remember?" (Found on FB)

"Remember when the President said he wasn't going to take a salary?
He just accepted his second paycheck.

Remember when he said Mexico was going to pay for the wall?
He has asked Congress to appropriate the $25 billion of taxpayer money to cover costs.

Remember when he said he wasn't going to go on vacation or play golf?
5 of the last 7 weekends he went on vacation and played golf, costing taxpayers $11.1 million.

Remember when he said he was going to use American steel to build these dangerous pipelines?
Russian steel arrived last week for the Keystone Pipeline XL.

Remember when he said he wasn't going to cut social security and Medicare?
The Republican bill does just this.

Remember when he said that nobody on his campaign had any communications with the Russian government?
7 of his people have now admitted they spoke and/or met with Russian officials, after they lied and got caught.

Remember when he said he was going to divest from his businesses?
Changed his mind.

Remember when he said he was going to release his tax returns?
Changed his mind.

Remember when he said he was going to drain the swamp of Washington insiders?
His cabinet is filled with lobbyists, oil and Wall Street executives.

Remember when he said would defeat ISIS in 30 days?
He doesn't have any plan.

Remember when he said that the Obamacare replacement would cover more people at lower cost?
The AHCA that the GOP and 45 are now pushing; they now admit will cover fewer people at a higher cost.

If you voted for him, please hold him accountable to what he promised you - for all of our sakes."

39. Great post...but I don't think any Repub bill has cut Social Security yet.

Is there a bill that cuts Social Security? We know it's coming, but I didn't think it was here yet.

The Healthcare bill moves up the financial fail year of Medicare (the year when Medicare funds goes into the red) by several years, so there would have to be 14% cut in Medicare then, or raise the Medicare tax (and we know how Republicans feel about raising the taxes of their Palm Beach friends).

???

13. That's a good start. Then they can apologize to the rest of us

who tried to warn them what their party insiders were up to. They were so busy trolling "libbies" that they failed to listen.

They can apologize for voting without thinking, reacting without researching, and accepting dogma as bunpersticker sound bites without ever questioning what lay behind them. They should all be deeply ashamed of themselves.

And until they start to fix these problems in their own characters, maybe they need to avoid voting. They've done enough damage for one century, thanks very much, and we're not even a quarter of the way through it.

Yes. Merrick Garland.

And one cleaned, disinfected, and fumigated Oval Office. Make sure the upholstery on those brocade sofas where the guests sit is steam-cleaned, after Kellyanne kneeled on them with her knees open and her dirty shoes on that elegant probably-silk fabric.

Might also be good to bring a priest in to perform an exorcism, and a tribal shaman to do a smudging ceremony for purification. And then hand the keys to the legitimate winner who carried the popular vote and wasn't installed in that job by the Russians. Along with a signed notarized document guaranteeing in writing that there will be no further bullshit persecutions of her so maybe she can start fixing a few things, starting with the wreckage from the vainglorious incompetent willfully uninformed pathologically-lying jerk who's still there at this point.

Imagine if our Dems really messed something up. We wouldn't trust the news if it came from Fox. We'd need to hear it from voices we trust, and even then we would probably need reassurances that they were still on our side.

14. Figures a Redstater still couldn't face reality...

I get the situation the GOP was in. They’re in power now. They have a failing health care system that has to be taken care of, and if they just leave it to rot, then all the people hurt will blame them. But, if they try to make any changes and a person so much as sneezes, then they will take the blame for all the health-related woes of the American people.

Reminder: part of the problem is that some states refused the medicaid expansion because their conservative politicians refused to even try it.

Like any system designed by humans, it has its problems that need to be ironed out. However, conservatives not only prevent fixes, but are dedicated to its complete elimination on, it must be stressed, purely ideological grounds: Any government program that works in favor of people argues for more, and they can't abide that.

22. As a lifelong Democrat I'm fully aware of what happened but . . .

my question is what does this apology mean? You've learned your lesson, that Rethugs do not have your best interest at heart (their constituents'); or as a tRump supporter finally realized a few days ago that she was conned/misled but will continue to follow the party which means that she still hasn't recognized that she will continue to vote against her own self-interest by continuously stuffing government with the party that clearly does not govern for the people but instead mock, ridicule and thumb their noses at constituents (yes, the people who hired them to do a job). How such a massive number of people could be hood winked to this degree really just blows my mind.

If you would honestly and with an open mind follow the campaigns and the promises made THEN using critical thinking decide based on FACTS (always fact check whether you listen to a Dem or Repub) who is really working for things that favorably impact your way of life and whether the promises made are even attainable. Learn to think for yourself and turn off Fox News or if that's too hard for you then at least listen (again, with an open mind) to MSM as well; fact check statements from each party; then using common sense weigh which candidate really has your back. Finally, STOP HATING!!

I guess we'll really see what this apology means in 2018, we'll be watching you.

Oh, a few were reasonably well thought out, but too many were in the vein of "I don't care if there's no plan, repeal it first and see what happens." These people have no earthly clue how vulnerable their own situation is or they do and think it's worth it if they go bankrupt as long as they can harm other people.

I don't know what's wrong with such people.

they really are sincere LOL.

If my memory serves, I think at first the only real plan was to repeal and then go back to the glorious pre-obamacare system. In the rightwing alt-universe, totally unregulated free market for-profit health care was just SOOOO wonderful .... and Obamacare was so disastrous and communistic and EVERYONE just hated it SOOOO much.

It really was only since the presidential election that I started hearing anything from the R's about replacing it.

45. There's no free market solution for healthcare.

Think about it. The gov't is already subsidizing disability insurance programs and health insurance companies by medicaid and medicare and Social Security Disability.

Despite taking all of the older, and less healthy people off the market the insurance companies still were not able to come up with a product that would cover most people in the US without them owing out their ass for it.

So the whole idea that there is any sort of a free market way for insurance to be affordable to everybody is BS.

It would make a lot more sense to just fess up they really think it's a tradeoff that in order to have the free market and choice we must accept people being uninsured. I'm not sure the public is ready for that choice though.
