(25,183 posts)It's Romney who will make something out of this ruling. He will use this to rally the tepid GOP'ers around him.
Let's face it, Reagan wasn't all that popular with many Rethugs when he first ran in 1976. There was also a sizable anybody-but-Reagan group of GOP voters out there in 1979. Like Mittens, he just outlasted everybody else. Even though Reagan supported abortion in California in the late 1960's, he eventually got the support of the fundies, even as his wife consulted psychics and dabbled in astrology.
Don't underestimate the ability of our enemies to patch up their differences when they have a common cause. Yesterday's SCOTUS ruling will be fashioned by Romney into that cause. He didn't get to where he is today by being the dumbest one in the bunch.
