Tommy Christopher @tommyxtopher 4h4 hours agoTrump ripped this woman away from her family, now her kids will face him down as he addresses Congress
Angel and Jaqueline Garcia de Rayos, the teenage children of Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos, will be the guests of Reps. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) on February 28 as Donald Trump makes his address to Congress.
Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos was detained and deported earlier in February after making an immigration check-in in Phoenix, as she had done seven times before. She has been an undocumented immigrant for almost two decades after coming to America as a teenager, where she later married and had two children.
Due to Trumps xenophobic new policies, the de Rayos family has been torn apart. Even though the mother of two posed no threat to the public at large, she was put in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement van, not allowed to see her children, and taken to Nogales, Mexico. The New York Times documented the aftermath of the callous action and how her daughter felt:
By sunrise, she was back home, packing her mothers suitcase her toothpaste, her brush, her favorite pants and shirts.
Nobody should have to pack her mothers bag, she said, her lips quivering, tears filling her eyes. It isnt fair.
Trump and fellow Republicans have campaigned on the backs of undocumented immigrants, dismissing them as criminals and rapists, despite the reality is that the overwhelming majority are families who work hard and pay taxes, and stay out of trouble. Literally dismantling these families to score political points is what the party of so-called family values has come to, and tomorrow they will confront the human reality of that decision face to face.

(148,262 posts)He will not see those people. He will not face them. He doesn't have to, so he won't. He doesn't care about them, either, and would deport them, too, if he could. They are non-people to Trump. They do not exist in his insulated, privileged world.
That is why Donald J. Trump will not respond to such things. He simply will not see them. He has long practice in not seeing what he does not care about. Such things are of no concern to him.
That is why this country made an enormous mistake by electing him. Among the people he does not see or care about are most of those who voted for him. They are no different than those three young people to Trump. He doesn't care if they live or die, because he will never have any contact with them. Frankly, he feels the same about Raul Grijalva.
Sad!

(90,481 posts)...their presence at the joint address is for the edification of the rest of America, not necessarily expecting Trump to care anymore than he has so far about them, and to give visibility to the millions of others at risk from his immigration policies.

(148,262 posts)There are so many who are affected by Trumpery that they may not be noticed by many, I'm afraid. In every little town and city across this country, there are people in the same or similar situations. We going to need our local media to take notice and publicize their plight. This is a problem that needs to become an everyday thing everywhere in the country, since the entire nation elects the President.
It's going to be up to each of us to make sure that people know about such situations wherever we are. Raul Grjalva is in Arizona. I am in St. Paul, MN. You are somewhere else. What will help the most is for each of us to find such situations and call attention to them to our local media so that they will be publicized.
I'm glad that Grijalva is taking that family to Washington, but it will not be enough. We all need to be taking people in that situation to the press, so their situation is known locally, where we vote. That will be far more effective, I believe.

(31,598 posts)the people who are alive only because of the ACA. I hope a few of them are invited to trump's bombast tomorrow night.
I would shudder and have a hard time fighting off nausea if I had to be in the same room with him. But I hope some of those individuals are invited as well.

(25,816 posts)Raul Grijalva is a gem--one of the few bright spots in Az politics.
I hope the networks cover this.
Guadalupe was brought here at age 14 by her parents and has been
a contributing member of society and is a mother.

(4,349 posts)Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos entered the country illegally, and married someone some time later. The article is unclear as to whom she married (a US citizen?) and what the status of that union is now. But still...
It sounds familiar.
Kinda' like what the First Skank (Melanoma, Melange, Mediocre?) did? Weren't her immigration forms falsified at the time of her entry to the USA? But because she married the ShitGibbon, she gets to stay?
Is the term "white privilege" supposed to be hyphenated?

(3,424 posts)She has spent most of her life here. Being a good tax paying person with two children!
This is heartless. Everyone involved with doing this to this family is evil. They wouldn't even let her see her children before she was taken away!
