White House officials had sought the help of the bureau and other agencies investigating the Russia matter to say that the reports were wrong and that there had been no contacts, the officials said. The reports of the contacts were first published by The New York Times and CNN on February 14.
The direct communications between the White House and the FBI were unusual because of decade-old restrictions on such contacts. Such a request from the White House is a violation of procedures that limit communications with the FBI on pending investigations.

"The New York Times put out an article with no direct sources that said that the Trump campaign had constant contacts with Russian spies, basically, you know, some treasonous type of accusations. We have now all kinds of people looking into this. I can assure you and I have been approved to say this -- that the top levels of the intelligence community have assured me that that story is not only inaccurate, but it's grossly overstated and it was wrong. And there's nothing to it," Preibus said on "Fox News Sunday" last weekend.

Large bureaucratic organizations like the FBI are highly complex with multiple parts that often conflict with each other.

That is why in my opinion it would be better to be the number two person at an organization like that. You get authority without your ass being on the line.

Comey's a typical right-wing fraction of a complete person, lacking the pieces that would make him someone who can handle power honorably and well.

When is the last time any of us saw a strong conservative be that? Never? That's why the dark money people had to purge moderate conservatives capable of caring about democratic principles from office.

to explain away his behaviors to people in general. You might read also the responses of legal professionals and others who hold positions of similar legal responsibilities. He is severely criticized for what most see as highly questionable and very worrisome behaviors for a person in his position.

He also has a history of questionable behaviors toward the Clintons going back to the right-wing Arkansas Project to take him out. Years of phony investigations based on nothing but a mountain of innuendo trying to tie the Clintons to wrongdoing with Whitewater started in Arkansas and were continued right through Bill's presidency--with the Republicans involving the FBI in the creation of these vast clouds of smoke and mirrors. Exactly like Hillary's emails years later.

Both times, in his position Comey had access to all information and HAD to know there was no criminal behavior to be found. That didn't keep him in the 1990s from participating enthusiastically (many witnesses to that) in politically motivated fake investigations involving the FBI in an attempt to destroy a Democratic president. This went on for years, of course, until they finally accidentally found out about Monica and Bill made the mistake of lying about THAT.

There's more to know about Comey than just his, at the very least, highly unethical use of power against Democratic candidates. And the number of people who have been watching him in some concern has exploded now that he's taken his mask off on TV.

Besides all the stuff that is not generally known, let's not forget that Comey did not properly inform the DNC that 2 Russian intelligence services were running free in their computer system all spring and summer while he watched them. He had excellent reason to believe none of the party's higher-ups were aware it was happening.
