This Trump administration has me totally stressed out.

I am scared to death that this childish, impulsive asshole has his finger on the nuclear button. Will we go to war tomorrow? Will immigrants be deported? Will women have access to health care they need?

I am already so sick at heart over this.

1. Since we can't predict his behavior, there's no point in stressing.

We're all feeling some variation on depressed and stressed, but honestly, there's no utility in it.

Let's each of us find some productive task or challenge that will make a positive difference.

3. Focus on your local region. Figure out how to get more Democrats registered.

Focusing on something that can't be changed without extraordinary events outside your control achieves nothing, IMO.

I am just so pissed off that the most qualified candidate in history, who won the popular election by 3 million votes, is not president. And am I scared for my Muslim and immigrant brothers and sisters.

5. Breath deeply. Worry about things you can change, and then do something. Observe the rest.

Maintain calm awareness.

Be poised to shift stance quickly.

Don't fight fears or worries. Whenever fears and worries rush in to overwhelm you, just say to yourself "Oh, hi. You again." Then mentally in your mind open a window and let a breeze waft them away. Direct yourself to something that needs to be done, not as a distraction, but as a way to maintain progress forward.

We will survive. We will persist and persevere.

You, me, DU, Democrats, the USA, this beautiful world. We will persist and triumph together.

It's more disgust than fear, though. I find myself swearing a lot more than usual. And, I swear A LOT as it is. Haven't started throwing things yet, however.

Two coffees in the morning instead of one. More cigarettes on my commute to work. More wine in the evening.

Wine, and great music. It helps me sleep. I also like walking my dog. Fresh air does a lot of good.

40. It's also called Trumpsomnia -- the sleep deprivation aspect of it

Here's an article from Salon in December:

http://www.salon.com/2016/12/25/suffering-from-trumpsomnia-now-i-feel-like-a-mad-man-has-taken-over/

I have found that acupuncture is helpful. It has allowed me to function without going on Zoloft. I also got prescriptions from a doctor for Gabapentin, which I take, when I need it, as a sleeping pill, and for Clonazepam. (Ditto.) Having those things at my disposal (plus the occasional glass of red wine, rum & coke or swig of Jack Daniels) has me functioning almost like a regular person again. And I wrote and recorded an album of anti-Trump protest songs, in the weeks after the election, as personal therapy ...

It's amazing how the election has turned a lot of people's hair gray -- mine included. There's a terrific songwriter here in Nashville; he doesn't fit the Nashville classic identity stereotype in various ways, but he has written hits for various pop and country stars and he's a wonderful teacher. A year or so ago his hair was all black. Now it's all white! He recently posted a new picture on Facebook and said: Well, I'm a silver fox now, I've been watching the news too much ...

42. Thank you! Uncanny. Im taking some of those for a nerve injury

I may resume some I still have around and had stopped taking. Plus, I've incressed my intake of red wine. Nice.
I was already an insomniac, genes and habits from working too hard. It's 110 AM.

It is really good to know I am not losing my mind, but there are so many of us. It's the kind of stress that happens because you don't know the outcome, but there is a gut fear. I though it would be over after the election, but little did we know, it escalated to a higher level.
My daughter is a pediatric psychologist, and she has seen a huge uptake in both kids anxiety directly (things that happen at school or fear of losing friends or relatives) and anxiety as a result of their parents stress.

Ill try acupuncture too. You reminded me that it helped relieve stress years ago.

Good on writing songs!

15. Keep your eye on Congress. Letters to editors about destruction of crucial protections.

I agree with Lakoff. We've gotta start seeing all the DT lunacy as a side-show and focus on the changes Reps in Congress are pushing through.

One way to refocus attention is through letters to the editor. Letters expressing horror at the dismantling of a specific protection. Letters telling them they need to keep their eye on the ball and do more reporting about the systematic dismantling of basic protections...

Read Lakoff's 10 points to democratic activists for guidance on how to frame things:

18. I learned the hard way that I've got to control my stress

I rushed off to an Indivisibles meeting in a part of town that I knew had traffic issues. When I got to the site, I couldn't figure out the parking. I went behind the buildings looking for parking. The space was very confusing and as I was crossing the parking lot, I didn't realize that I was crossing a small street and got in a small wreck. (No one hurt, but enough damage that both of us will need to get our cars fixed...and thank God, I didn't get a ticket)

This all could have been avoided if I hadn't been so stressed and rushed.

This is the first time I've had any type of incident happen that was my fault in 25 years. I haven't even gotten a ticket in 25 years.

I need to really center myself. My stress level has been very high. I consider this to be a wake-up call.

22. I think I am used to the stress.

Maybe it helps that I have been through some shit in life but at my age (52) i can now realize I did not let any of it destroy me. And I sure ain't going to let some orange old man and a bunch of scared Republicans do it.

Now I am also feeling impatience. I feel like the stuff that will bring it all down is in the pike but has to go slow so it is done right.

Bush set us back a fer piece and then Obama got us to a great re-starting point. Now this is going to set us back ages if it doesn't come to the stop I am hoping is out there.

We can only be in THIS MOMENT (and that's another moment entirely when this is read!).
When the big things overwhelm me, I find looking at the sky or a bird or my dog and focusing on it really makes me remember love. I can't let all the crap take that away.

All to make it more likely that we don't realize our pockets are being picked to finance mega-tax cuts for the very rich. Focus on what the House and Senate do, and less on the purposeful chaos and drama from the Oval Office.

Oops: see post 15. I also recommend reading Lakoff's blog.

I know a lot of Dems and Indys who are stressed out, as I am to some degree.

But, as said above, if a situation is out of your control and beyond your influence--worrying wastes energy.

It will just drag down your health and make you unable to fight the good fight. Stay healthy and pace yourself.

We need you Kath!
