(135,425 posts)I'm sure the younger generation is saying "Who are these assholes" but to anyone of a certain age, this is "Big News" of the Show business and "cultural icon" variety.
Back when there were only three networks (if you were lucky and the rabbit ears could reach a major market) and a part time public television station that showed Madame Slack French lessons and early Julia Child cooking classes, at least a third of the country watched this show.
The avuncular Fred MacMurray (who was an asshole IRL, and I got that from good authority) was one of the rare single parents on TV, and he was a GUY raising three boys with "Uncle Charlie." The show was rather different from the standard "nuclear family" fare that dominated the airwaves at the time.
