Town Hall meetings

Do any of you go to town hall meetings with your representative?

I signed up for my first town hall meeting, albeit via telephone with my house rep.
I will read my statement about why I think what's happening amounts to a coup and why I think our democracy is being destroyed.
Similar to my post a few days ago, I will provide the background about Putin, Dugin, Bannon. My goal is to have house rep who has staff and resources, to look into it.
Connect the dots, expand inquiry and go to the media with this information.Start freaking educating the public! People did not vote for Bannon!! This is so mich bigfer than Obamacare!!

The issue at hand is that most trump voters think trump is in charge and that's who they voted for. Once they understand who Bannon is and that he is in charge of all policies and that trump is basically just a puppet. Once they understand what is the true intent of the proposed policies, etc. Maybe, just maybe, some trump supporters will start looking into this closer and they will find out for themselves.

We need at least some buyer's remorse for successful impeachment. Bannon might be the key.

2. But there's not a lot of town halls listed there

Of the 535 members of Congress, we have a handful here, and most of the listings are not for Town Halls, per se, but regular office hours. Most, you will notice, are also Republicans. Only 22 states of the 50 have listings.

There are no town halls listed for any legislator in my state. I went to my Representative's web site, and although it may not be up to date (a problem in itself), the last town halls he held were in 2015. They were fine: one was for "Violence" and the other was for "Women's Issues."

I do write or call my legislators when the occasion is necessary (right now, these are Durbin, Duckworth, and Davis). But I have never received notice of a town hall in any of the states in which I have resided.

3. All info is gathered by volunteers.

Perhaps Indivisible doesn't have a volunteer to gather info about Illinois lawmakers. (Hint, hint, hint.)

4. Or (some) Illinois lawmakers don't hold town halls

As I said, when I googled for Davis's town halls, I found only 2 on his web site, both from spring 2015. When I googled Durbin I found less (though one can arrange meetings with him, certainly). Perhaps the issue is that these legislators face little to no opposition here, either ideologically or electorally. Danny Davis is pretty much Congressman for Life. Durbin wins by large margins, though probably faces opposition downstate.

Duckworth has just begun, so I don't expect her to have any town meetings yet.

The better strategy would be to urge lawmakers to hold town halls (rather than just recording ones that exist).

6. Thanks

Unfortunately, I'm not available next Friday to go. It's a joint appearance by Durbin, Duckworth, and Schakowski--and the deplorable Republican Governor Rauner--on mental health. Not exactly a 1on 1.

Rauner is going to take some big heat in Skokie.
