(on edit: barring tragedy, illness, scandal, Biden's wishes etc. but the President will not Choose to replace Biden for simple political advantage, sheesh.)
It would be perceived as weakness. The choice of Joe would cast as a 'mistake' by President Obama in his first term.
I'm sure someone in the West Wing has brought it up, but just like President Bartlet on the TV show, President Obama has closed the subject. I guarantee you.
I would have been fine with Hillary as his VP choice and Joe as SoS in 2008, but that time has passed.

(102,119 posts)As Robert Reich has suggested. But, I agree, there is no way Obama would unceremoniously "dump" Biden from the VP spot unless Biden requested a shift to SOS. Whether HRC would want to be VP is quite questionable, to me.
And, I don't agree with those who suggest Biden as VP to be a liability... I think it is very difficult to appreciate all that he is doing for Obama--from the sidelines, but it does seem that the President is happy with his counsel. Me, I really like Biden. No politico is immune from criticism, certainly--nor should they be. But, I like him.

(27,461 posts)I haven't seen any good reasons to replace him, but if he did have such a reason, he would do it and ignore anyone who called it a sign of weakness.

(10,611 posts)That was still far enough into things for Biden to decline and he didn't.
But apparently (cockeyed) hope springs eternal when people see someone daydream in print.

(31,935 posts)Biden will be too old in 2016. I don't think it is necessary for Obama to do that however. Let whoever wants to run, run.

(10,611 posts)If Hillary wanted 2016, how much setup would she need?

(31,935 posts)As I said let whomever runs, run. I think multi-candidate primaries are a good thing. They toughen a candidate for the general.

(23,864 posts)I'm just saying that, politically, I'd be more comfortable with that than losing Joe entirely.
The ghost of Ed Wood would naturally be my next choice as Secretary of State.

I suspect that is not what you meant, but I had to throw that out there.
