You would have to be a ghoul to vote

to strike down the ACA. You would have to ignore the effect your vote would have on millions of people. You would have to not know anyone with a serious pre-existing condition or anyone with young struggling adult children. You would have to live in a slimey wet place under a rock. I think that there are 5 people on the Supreme Court who would like to sleep at night...I know there are 4. Brown v. Board of Education was a unanimous SC vote. Roe v. Wade was a 7-2 vote. This one will be 5-4 to retain the ACA because that one deciding vote knows the human suffering that will result if he goes the other way. There probably has never been another SC vote where so many innocent lives are on the line. This is what I think. This is what I hope. We'll see.

I expect it to go 5-4 the other way. They'll say they are only taking down the mandate, but everything else will be unraveled by subsequent litigation. The President's executive orders will be ineffectual.

This decision will echo for years.

so black letter that a Justice could not find it in his heart and in his humanity to lean towards the humane thing to do. I say "his" purposely.

You mentioned nothing about the law or the constitutionality, you simply stated that only a ghoul would overturn the ACA. I took that to mean that no matter what the justice(s) felt about the law and its constitutionality, they should vote to uphold based on emotion.

If that's no what you meant, then I clearly misunderstood. Or maybe it was the scotch.

that the law on it is not clear cut so I didn't think I needed to mention that. It wasn't the scotch.

Or, instead of being a ghoul, perhaps you have a really good reason to oppose a bad, Republican idea from the 1990s that is still a bad, Republican idea today.

... just a thought.
