Is everybody here in as shitty a mood this week

as I am?

I'm pissed and I'm in mourning.

Good thing my husband is gone this week and I can hunker at home till I readjust my attitude.

I'm gonna have this funk for a loooooooong time. Pretty much always. So I get funky. Turn up the funk music.

Reminds me of something Johnny Cash once said. 'I was down so low the only two things that could help me was the lord and Betty Ford.'

Fortunately I don't need Betty Ford.

4. I will be at the Chicago march with some friends on Friday.

And the clouds just broke and it is sunny at this minute.

I hope/think that the Trump experience will motivate people to organize and resist. And as his deluded followers are inevitably disappointed by the Trump experience, perhaps they will also turn from him.

Not going to let it happen again. I think we will survive, just like then. And, we got a great Prez after bush's run.

By god, I am going to make use of these 4 years to criticize GOPers and their buffoon Prez as often as I can.

8. Some in here need to lighten up on the depression attacks

Look, I'm as pissed about everything as anybody else is. But my personal day to day life?? I'm sorry, but donald trump does not have the power to make my life shitty any more than Hillary would have had the power to make my life wonderful. Our day to day happiness is in our own hands and we alone have the power to make it shitty or happy. I do NOT give the trumpster the power to make my life shitty. I can do that all on my own if I so choose. I intend to go on being the happy successful person I've always strived to be. I am a little depressed this week, but not because of trump. You see, I had knee replacement surgery 12 weeks ago and have been on disability from my job and getting free checks. Next week I have to return to work and have to actually do something again for the money that appears in my account every week. Now THAT'S depressing.
AS far as trump goes, I hate him as much as anyone could, but I refuse to let him make my life shitty.

9. Well good for you (that you're not depressed daily by the thought of the incoming trump admin)

and sorry that you have to go back to working for your paychecks. Truly.

I have been managing to stay pretty balanced since 11/8, with highs and lows. It is important to keep some perspective personal / political-public life.

This week, as I say, has been terrifically sad and depressing anticipating the hurt that is going to be brought down on people and the planet by trump ascending to the position of leader of the free world.

That's all...

but for God's sake don't let it ruin your entire life and rob you of some of your sanity.
As you said, keep everything in perspective. The first place to resist trump is by not allowing him the power to ruin your sanity. It's just not worth it.

49. Sorry I don't have 6,643 posts like you do

but I don't live here and feel the need to post 24/7.

As far as being a 'newbie', the first campaign I ever worked on was for George McGovern. It was also the first election I was able to vote in as well. When I turned 18, the voting age was still 21. Our generation changed that. I had to serve in the military for 3 years before I was able to vote. I didn't want to be in the military, but when I was 18 there was a draft going on, you may have heard of it. Our generation changed that too.

I've seen a hell of a lot of shit go down for a 'newbie' like myself.

Have a nice day, "King C"

89. You've got me beat by 8 years. First election I voted in was Carter's in 1980. First

one I worked on (as a volunteer precinct walker) was Jesse Jackson's primary campaign in 1988. (I may have walked precincts for Dukakis in the GE, but I can't remember doing it, even though I liked Dukakis a lot.)

I don't post here 24/7 either. But I have been thinking about Hair Furor and how to respond almost non-stop since Nov. 9. I don't expect to stop any time soon, although circumstances may soon prevent me from posting here as often.

What's coming down the pike is going to make Ticky Dick look like a choir boy, I fear. (Just came out yesterday that Trump and his Junta are being advised by Blakcwater founder Erik Prince, who is advocating a return of the Phoenix Program!). We'll be damned lucky not to end up as a radioactive cinder heap.

The bravest of the brave during Vietnam in my opinion were not those who went abroad to evade tje draft, although that took courage, nor those who served, although that too required more courage thnn I have had before now. In my opinion, the bravest of the brave were those who went to prison rather than serve. You can dismiss that as 'crazy talk' if you want. Nelson Mandela was so 'crazy' he spent 27 years in prison.

42. I'm not foolish enough to discuss specific strategies and tactics

on an electronic discussion board, expecially one that was hacked on Election Day by the enemy. Loose lips sink ships.

Read my other responses on this thread, though (specifically Post #15), and you will see the direction in which my thoughts are headed.

Also, do note that Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in confinement on Robben Island, much of it in solitary. It would behoove members on this board to begin thinking more in those terms, methinks, and less in terms of liberal democratic norms.

15. Dictators and totalitarians have a weak point. They rely on

the obedience of their subjects. Sustained resistance or disobedience tends to destabilize such regimes, maybe even more effectively than armed struggle. You want to attack dictators at their point of greatest weakness (which is not the armed constabulary, where dictatorial regimes hold an initial and substantial advantage). Their greatest weakness is their reliance on the obedience of their subjects.

If Trump is going to use tax dollars to discriminate against Muslims and or Latinos, why then we must all risk imprisonment or death to take up a policy of sustained tax resistance.

Will we? Time will tell. Time, though, to gum up the works and render Trumpland ungovernable.

20. Depressed Plus Lost My Hearing In One Ear

I was in bed and reading Twitter a week prior to the election and it felt/sounded like a light bulb going off in my head and my hearing was gone. I have hearing aids now but the tinnitus is awful...everything I put in my mouth from meds to food sets it off.

Not much is cheering me up - not interested in watching late night comedy - because it's just not funny what happened and what is about to happen. The news is a no no - no effing way will I torment myself like during the Bush years.

I met Hillary in August and have a picture of her/me/my son - I teared up that day when I saw her out of joy and now I tear up out of sadness and anger...

23. Hell, I'm in Canada and I'm in a shitty mood.

I can barely work, I'm depressed and angry, sarcastic and deeply dark. I tend to take a global view of all things, but no matter what part or how much of the world I pay attention to, I see nothing but Trump-shit all over it for at least four years.

My mood is made even worse by my analysis of Putin's role in the clusterfuck. It makes me very afraid that you, and by extension the world, is in far worse trouble than even the angriest American realizes. And all of this is happening just as climate change is biting our ass ever harder, the EU is failing, and the global economy is teetering on the brink.

I frankly can't imagine what I'd feel like if I lived 100 miles due south over the border.

But at least I'm not suicidal - the "Martian anthropologist" part of me is gleeful that it's going to get to see how this clusterfuck plays out.

27. So, interesting views here that fall into 2 groups:

1 - I won't let Trump and everything he represents ruin my life on a daily, personal basis

2 - How can you not?, and maybe even, it should.

To be honest, I can hold both views simultaneously, and flip-flop back and forth (which is exhausting in itself).

Both views are valuable and have credit, I think. It IS important not to let Trump and his minions take control of our lives. If we have children, family, pets, friends, co-workers - they need and deserve our best, as do we, ourselves. And we need to retain the energy to keep up the fight.

At the same time, compassion and empathy demand we bear in mind our roles and responsibility in the world.

As is usually the case, for me the answer is found in balance. I spoke in the OP of how I feel this week. On and after 11/8, I was similarly deflated. This week I am again sick about the state of our country. I expect I will pick myself up - especially at the March on Saturday - dust myself off, and re-engage in the world, eventually.

For now I am going to mope and drown my sorrows. It is how I will move through this. I wish everyone the best in finding your way, as well.

82. Think globally. Act locally.

I know that's a bumper sticker phrase, and can be considered cliche. But I also feel that's our best way forward. Being good to the people closest to us. Helping improve our neighborhoods, our city councils etc.

35. Cool! I'm a UU

(humanist / pagan / atheist) too!

If not for your post I would think staying busy is the key. It is usually very helpful to me. But something in me, along with being pretty much housebound due to the weather, is leading me towards not stuffing it away and covering it up, but dealing with it by going through it and facing it head on.

I have avoided cable news in large part since 11/8 and that's been healthy for me.

This is like looking at an animal that's been hit by a car. Normally I just hide my eyes and continue in my bubble. I may be sorry, but this time I am going to watch, at least until Friday. I refuse to watch that hideous excuse of a human assume the mantle of a dignified, historic position. It's a travesty. I believe history will right this wrong. It just can't come soon enough.

43. I honestly can't remember the last time I watched cable news.

It's been all WaPo, NYT, BBC, and other print sources for me. I'll stay informed, but only if I can read it and not have some bobble head spin it for me. I can barely watch Alec Baldwin do an impersonation. Cannot stomach for 5 seconds the guy he's impersonating. If I turn my tv off of Amazon, Netflix, or HBO Go I might accidentally hear his voice. I can't take the risk.

After this past week I'm starting to think that staying busy is killing me. Looking forward to going over to Orlando with my sister for a rock concert on Saturday evening is sustaining me at the moment. For 24 hours the twins will be hiding from husbands, sons, and jobs and doing whatever the heck we want!

Okay, not an arena filling A-list band, but it's a night away with one of my favorite people in the world. Used hotel points to get a place walking distance to the club where they are playing and in the other direction, walking distance to an excellent pub. Party Saturday night. Preach Sunday morning. LOL!

52. You are not alone.

I lost faith in fellow citizens because of the election results. I'm deeply distressed by how many people were taken in by Trump.
Yes, there are the deplorables who were thrilled with his message of misogyny, racism, xenophobia, but way too many people
were not able to identify him as a pathological liar and untrustworthy. Plus, he's just not a decent human being.

I fear we're in for some very dark days. I think Trump will survive less than a year in office (whether he resigns, is impeached, or
dies), but Pence is awful, too. Both are hateful, unempathic men who do not believe in equal rights for all citizens.

So, yes, I'm in mourning for my country. And I have zero respect for anyone identified as Republican. That includes family whom I know
voted for Trump. But I can't let it overwhelm my life.

Interestingly, my husband is a shrink--still working part-time--and he has said that almost all of his patients have expressed some level
of dismay over the election and are finding themselves affected emotionally by it on a day to day basis.

I think that those of us who value government and see it as a means to improve lives of our fellow citizens are all affected by the election
results because the Republican party appears to have little or no use for government for that purpose. Think about it. What's the first thing
they want to get rid of? Health care. Yeah, let's have military parades instead. And that woman nominated for Education Secretary. Good lord.
She's out to destroy public education. The list goes on and on...it's almost as though Trump is choosing not the best person for the job, but the best person to destroy the office for which he/she is nominated.

Yes, I'm in mourning and angry. WTF was the matter with people voting for that sociopathic $hitbucket?

53. That's how I survived when Nixon got in

I couldn't believe smug white suburbanites hated the rest of us so much that they voted for a corrupt man with such deep personality flaws.

His hate lives on in the War on Drugs, still doing damage to people 40 years later and pretty much costing us the entire Fourth Amendment in the process.

The feeling with Trump is exactly the same, with the same dumb, hateful people supporting him.

We did survive Nixon, although we've been prevented from ending his War on the American People, I mean drugs.

I shudder to think what this new man-baby is going to hit us with. I just hope there is enough will to overturn his evil.

67. Here's a little *factoid* from the Nixon/Humphrey race

Whenever someone tells me their vote doesn't count, I tell them this:

If 1/10th of just 1 percent of the people who didn't vote would have voted for Humphrey, Nixon would have lost. That's how close it was. And it was just as close this time.

We are in this position because a very small percentage of folks who could have voted, DIDN'T.

56. I know something is wrong

I know that I have never been filled with dread like this.
I know that this man knows NOTHING about governing.

What do I do with this rage for the people I know who voted for him? Especially the ones who are supposed to be intelligent? I understand how he conned the deplorables with his lies, but these people I know who have done quite well under Obama-- I want to spit on them.

What do I do with the fear that our economy is going to collapse because he doesn't know what he's doing?

What do I do with this fear that he has generals in his cabinet because he's looking forward to starting a war?

I keep clicking on DU and Huffpo to see if the idiot has been arrested yet.

It's awful.

I can't stand him nor his silver-haired sidekick. Trumplethinskin is going to crash this country and I'm so afraid for the children.

I really didn't have a good feeling despite, Clinton being ahead in the polls.

I kept trying to imagine Clinton being sworn in and kept seeing Trump. I was bewildered why that image kept coming up. She was ahead in the polls.

I've found a silver lining. I'm going to be the most smug m**********r you've ever met when shit starts hitting the fan. My fellow Americans are going to hear exactly how fucking stupid they are over the next four years.

I travel a lot. Always end up in conversations with white conservative males at hotels all over the country. I can't wait for these fuckers to start complaining to me about "the GOP gutted Medicare! " Well, yeah dumbass! They've been broadcasting that intention for at least 5 years. YOU couldn't be bothered to be an informed citizen, serves you right! Or, "The GOP took away my sisters healthcare and she's diabetic. Now she can't get insurance." Well actually, YOU took away your sisters healthcare. They told you they we're going to do it and you voted for them anyway. That's on you, dumbass. How fucking stupid do you have to be? "Fucking economy is in the toilet." Well, that's what you wanted. You voted for it. Shit, every Nobel prize winning economist in the world told you this would happen. Dumbass. Etc., etc., etc.

I will be the most smug, unbearable bastard to every conservative who dares complain in my direction. And it'll happen a lot. I'm also a white male. Birds of a feather and all that. It's gonna be some good times.

Each day, there is more garbage from Trump, his transition, the Russian debacle, the deplorables.

At this point, I just want him to be sworn in because that puts us closer to 1) his impeachment or 2) his defeat in the 2020 election. Plus, Obama deserves a break. He's been so good to this country and then got nothing but spit on in the end.
