Publix hides National Enquirer covers after complaints

Posted: 6:56 a.m. Wednesday, January 04, 2017

If you want to read The National Enquirer while you’re waiting online at Publix, you’ll have to hunt for it behind a plastic cover shielding its front page from public view.
After receiving continued complaints about the tabloid, Publix said it decided to add the Enquirer to the list of publications that it covers in its stores. In a statement posted on the grocer’s website, Publix officials said the decision was in response to numerous complaints not “particular cover or any political views.”

“Recently, due to continual complaints, Publix added The National Enquirer to the list of titles we permanently cover in our stores, the statement read. “Please know that this decision was based solely on a long history of customer complaints regarding offensive and objectionable material, not in response to a particular cover or any political views.”

But the move has drawn fire from some customers, who say the decision to cover the publication came after the tabloid ran a story about President-Elect Donald Trump. Some took to Twitter to sound off about the move.

I was going to turn them around, but they were already covered up. I didn't realize the store was doing that, good for them!

Half a dozen times now. Pull it off the rack, pretend to leaf through it, put it back the wrong way. Simple, subtle, sends a nice message.

I added: "Quit selling TNE and other fake-news tabloids!" She loved my idea, but of course that decision would be at a higher level.
So, let's thank Publix for their move. But let's pressure Publix management to drop these specious publications totally.

The worst part of it was that there has never been anything political in the check-out zone. And to start seeing all the anti-Hillary stuff and pro-Clownstick stuff has been driving me crazy.

I just sent them this message:

THANK YOU for deciding to cover the National Enquirer! The checkout aisle is not a political zone...it's a place for deciding whether to get a yummy candy treat or just replenish my sugar-free mints. I had been feeling as though I was being barraged by hate speech every time I checked out at my local store. And that's counter to the warm and friendly Publix shopping experience in every way.

my mother always griped that they were expensive, but I thought the quality was so much better, it was worth it.

I wish I could patronize them here in NM. I hate seeing all that crap at the check stand.

I just came back from my local Publix and the Enquirers were there, brazen and naked...and hating on Obama. I complained at the desk, and the clerk said "yeah, I think I saw something about that..." I turned around the ones I saw, at least.

They are both horrible to the Clintons, Obamas and anything negative about the Kennedys. Really outrageous crap.

But they kiss Rumps rump all the time.
