(13,948 posts)They sure love to toss out that word against anyone and everyone and now we have a prime example of its proper use.
With the local conservatives I have started referring to Trump as "Putin's boy in DC."
When they got angry with the disrespect I observed that since they knew who I was talking about there is an obvious basis for the claim. They are free to prove that he is not a neo-Soviet stooge JUST LIKE they told me Obama was free to prove he was not a Kenyan-born muslim plot to destroy the country.

(1,441 posts)Why would that change a Trump voters mind now?
I remember Hillary talking about it at the debate. None of this is post election news.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)They chose to ignore these things and voted for him anyway because they believed that Hillary Clinton was the devil incarnate.
Their stupidity and prejudice helped get Putin's puppet elected.
Calling them Deplorables is actually being too nice and cordial. They're TRAITORS to this country, just like the man they helped into the highest office of the land.
As an American who loves her country with all of her heart, these TRAITORS disgust me.

Just sending it down the bonehole for the hell of it is lunacy.

We need to be figuring out how to get our economic message to the 65 million people that voted for someone other than HRC.
Calling them names and degrading them isn't going to covert them.
There is a very good post somewhere on this board correctly stating that not every Trump voter is a bigoted, homophobic, xenophobic racist.
I've seen a lot of posters here admit that they 'held their nose' and voted for HRC. I believe many of Trump's voters did the same thing.
Too many stores of people voting for Kerry and PBO twice and then pulling the lever for Trump for them to be traitors.
Let's cut back on the name-calling, demonizing, un-friending, and exclusion from family events and work on bringing those people back into the fold along with convincing non-voters to show up
This post sums it up better than I can

Do the voters who gave Hitler and his National Socialist party pluralities in the 1932 and 1933 German federal elections get a pass?
If the answer is no why do American voters who gave Trump his plurality get a pass?
--DalefromWPB
Hard to bring people who believe that Mexicans are "criminals, rapists, and murderers" , blacks live in shitholes where you "can't walk without getting shot", Muslims should be barred from entering the United States and the ones who are already here should be surveiled, and that is okay to "grab women by the pussy" into the fold. Hell, I don't want to be in their fold and I doubt they want to be in mine.

(11,804 posts)Many Trump Voters are never going to be on our side because their a racist or hateful; however other people who voted for Trump could be convinced to support liberal candidates in the future.

(13,390 posts)Tying racism exclusively to Trump or Bannon or any other individual ignores the real issue.
DemocratSinceBirth
(100,409 posts)The real issue is that Trump won and will appoint Supreme Court justices who will remove governmental protection from those most in need of it. The real issue is that Trump will repeal the Affordable Care Act and leave twenty million Americans without health insurance. The real issue is that he has filled his Cabinet with racists, reactionaries, and reprobates.
The real issue is that hate crimes are mushrooming because Trump's racist, anti-semitic, Islamophobic, and homophobic devotees feel emboldened.
The real issue is that Trump will hurt the people in my life I care deeply about. His voters have stabbed the rest of us in the back. I am not going to give them a pass because they are American just as if I were a German I wouldn't have given a pass to my fellow Germans who voted for Hitler.

(13,390 posts)you cannot exclude the people who did not vote for Trump. It will only enable the bigotry to fester and be used again.

(100,409 posts)In that vein reporters asked Joe Louis how he could serve his country in WW ll when his fellow African Americans were being discriminated against at home. The Brown Bomber said "ain't nothing Hitler can fix."
Well, bigotry ain't nothing Trump and the Deplorables can fix.

(13,390 posts)Trump only got away with exploiting it because our culture itself had room for it. He succeeded because our power structure and the people in it is dominated by white supremacy.
If it were only about Trump, would it be a legitimate strategy to support a Democratic candidate who exploits bigotry in order to win?

(21,835 posts)But, he still didn't get more votes. He lied through his teeth from day one. He is still an obnoxious baby man and he still worked with Russia?
So, do we dumb down to appease his voters, or is it time for them to use their brain just a little?

I can' agree to disagree on many things.. this is not one of them. Sadly, they're going to have to suffer before they wake up and unfortunately the rest of us will go down with them.
Sorry I am not going to forgive and forget here when I now have to fear my grandson will be sent off to a bullshit war, I fear being able to retire etc.. NO - JUST NO. These people need to be shunned.

(16,770 posts)We're ripe for a major mess and those voters were talking about allowed themselves to be duped by a party that has never done a damn thing for them.
Those voters simply do not pay attention and now they've put people in place who threaten the very foundation of everything that made this country great.

I will never shy away from shining a light on the bigotry, the xenophobia, the nativism, the anti-semitism, the Islamophobia, the racism, the sexism, the misogyny , and yes the treason of Donald Trump and his merry band of Deplorables.
