They began after the Nazis rise to power in 1933 and became a yearly event emblematic of the power of the regimes propaganda machine.
Each year, the rallies grew larger and more impressive, and Hitlers speeches became progressively more sinister.
So no, you dont remember this happening. This is unusual.
Look, the point of this article is not to flippantly shout Look, Trump is Hitler! Rather, it is to point out that certain types of leaders behave in certain types of ways and we must always be vigilant and conscious of historical parallels as they present themselves. Past is prelude. History repeats itself.
Presidents-elect typically spend this time focused not on gloating and getting back out among the fawning crowds, but on the very serious and difficult task of preparing to do the job of President of the United States. Sometimes they even hold press conferences, something Trump has not done for 127 days (as of this writing).

"I did the translation recently, based on what my mom told me. Liselotte, my grandmother, spent two years in a concentration camp after voicing her opinion."
Sebastian admitted that the quote, as lyrical as it is, may not be entirely accurate, as there is no way to determine exactly what Liselotte Hübner might have said back in 1929:
"Liselotte, my grandmother, spoke out against Hitler and consequently spent over two years in a concentration camp. Her exact words are unknown."
In other words, this quote is a modern translation of someone else's recollection of what a third party reportedly said over eighty years ago. As such, while the general sentiment it expresses may be accurate, the specific wording used may be much more reflective of 21st century American politics than 1920s-era German politics.

(60,010 posts)When I saw that the llink was quoting Kurt Eichenwald, who I know as a good investigative reporter and author, I assumed he was correct.
Which he was kinda sorta.
So, technically, the rallies were held by the Nazi Party :
and not quite the same thing as Trump is doing now.
