Stroke...there are medico legal aspects to this, in Mexico no trace in an EEG for 24 hours, leads to the declaration. In the states I think it's shorter. He is probably in that limbo. At 84 we get into the issue of heroic meassures

... senior officials, including military leaders, have now contradicted that earlier report. Gen. Mamdouh Shahin, a member of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, reportedly told CNN that Mubarak "is not clinically dead as reported, but his health is deteriorating and he is in critical condition."

And the timing sucks.
I read this as limbo and waiting to see if there is EEG trace...
And with modern tech they can keep the body going avoiding, hopefully, the crisis.
