Ammon Bundy Takes The Stand For 3rd Day - # BundyTeaParty

By BRYAN M. VANCE, CONRAD WILSON • 4 HOURS AGO

Occupation leader Ammon Bundy is expected to begin his third — and likely final — day of testimony Thursday morning ... He’s expected to give about 90 minutes of direct testimony, and then all of the other defense attorneys will get to ask Ammon Bundy questions ...

... jurors could see an unusual occurrence in federal court: one brother questioning another about the alleged conspiracy and the occupation ...

... In his first two days on the stand, he has essentially retold his life story ...

He’s also spoken a lot about his faith and his belief that the Constitution is a divine document ...

... Bundy returned to the witness stand for a third day and explained why he felt 3 possible outcomes of the refuge takeover would help further his cause.

First of all, he said, the occupation would inevitably garner media attention and give ranchers like himself an opportunity express their concerns with federal government overreach.

The refuge takeover effort could also possibly give Harney County residents control over the land and local resources, a primary goal in the occupation.

Even if Bundy was arrested, charged with trespassing and served with an eviction notice, he said he could fight the issue of land ownership in court ...

Bundy ... described his training sessions on land rights, and he showed jurors videos of their prayer sessions and videos and photos of his visits with ranchers from the community. Bundy also said a post found on his Facebook page with a man dressed in camouflage with an assault rifle that read, "Forgive Me Father For I Will Sin'' was put up by him. He said five others had access to his Facebook account ...

Does he mean he swallowed the sloppy Dominionist histrionics David Barton is peddling as U.S. History, that the Constitution was handed down from on High to Adams, Jefferson, Madison and Co. to enshrine in Law for this country?
The Constitution was "so divine" that the Continental Congress began amending the it before the ink on the ratifying signatures was dry, and continued to be amended as circumstances warranted.

Armed occupation leader cites religious faith in justifying Oregon refuge takeover

By Scott Bransford | PORTLAND, ORE.

Ammon Bundy, who led an armed occupation of a U.S. wildlife center in Oregon earlier this year, testified in federal court on Thursday that his hostility toward federal land ownership was shaped by his religious faith and "natural laws."

Taking the witness stand for a third day at his conspiracy trial in U.S. District Court in Portland, Bundy delved further into the ideology he said was behind the forcible takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge by a band of militants in January.

Bundy told jurors that his group seized the refuge in rural eastern Oregon not only to protest what they saw as overreach by the U.S. government but to show how public lands should be entrusted to private citizens according to an ancient, divinely inspired set of doctrines.

“These principles, they’re not something that comes and goes,” Bundy, 41, said under questioning from his attorney. “They’re natural laws that we were teaching.”

This is about about convincing all twelve jurors that he's guilty.

It's a win-win for this asshole. Guilty, he gets six years, serves two including time served. Fox News, books, speaking fees, etc.

Not guilty or hung jury? Same thing except charging twice as much.

Either way it's got to be more money and easier work than owning a limo company in Phoenix pays.

He either convinces one of them that saving America from birds is patriotic -- just one -- or he's found guilty. Either way, he wins. The punishment isn't very severe if he's guilty, and if it's a hung jury he can begin his militia speaker circuit a couple of years sooner. Hell, two or three years behind bars might make him a martyr to the lunatic right and a millionaire after he gets out.

... Knight spent about 15 minutes mostly asking Bundy about statements he had made under direct examination. Using his usual earnest tone of voice, Bundy denied or claimed not to remember events he had recently described.

Bundy changed his tune about whether he was the leader of the occupation, claimed not to remember whether he was in Burns in November 2015 for a series of meetings he had earlier described having with Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward, and claimed he didn't remember talking about making changes to the refuge.

During questioning from his lawyer Marcus Mumford, Bundy had detailed the "improvements" he and his fellow occupiers made to the refuge in line with their belief that they could claim the deed to the federal property through the arcane legal doctrine of adverse possession.

But he backpedaled when Knight asked him about the legal process he had earlier described with enthusiasm and certainty ...
