'New York Times' Editor: 'We Owed It To Our Readers' To Call Trump Claims Lie
The New York Times recently published a story that examined the way that Donald Trump's presidential campaign promoted his tax plan. Trump had offered a big tax break to businesses, and his campaign told a leading business group he supported the tax break. He got their endorsement. Then his campaign told independent budget analysts he was against the same tax break.

The New York Times called this a lie — specifically, "the trillion-dollar lie."

The Times is using that word "lie" often in its coverage of Donald Trump, and Dean Baquet, the paper's executive editor, explains why on NPR's Morning Edition.

I heard this interview this morning. The interview spent more time discussing Trump's lie concerning birtherism, and it highlights the different editorial policies of NPR and the New York Times.

such a fickle lover of liberal ideals. I respect your prudence, but question your motives. These times require more than you are willing to give? OK, I understand the power of governments to silence the media. Another foolish attempt?

I still don't trust them.

The interview, by the way, covers in a small way NPR's editorial policy when it comes to Trump falsehoods. It violates their policy to call a lie a lie.

you wouldn't have to call drumpfy on his lies now, because he never would have made it this far. you are complicit, you are responsible for helping to create this monster. apologize for that, even though it won't do us a damned bit of good.

Exactly what you said. Switched to the WashPost. Thank you Davud Fahrenthold for proving there are still REAL investigative reporters out there and not just a bunch of note takers. That famous monkey that typed all the works of Shakespeare could do that.

NPR has been a cheerleader of false equivalence, playing down, or ignoring, Trumps huge lies while using a megaphone when discussing every bit of gossip about Clinton.

If a politician stands up and tells a demonstrable lie, that lie is newsworthy, and the word LIE should be on the front page.

and her role as a stooge for Bush & Cheney to gin this country up for war by facilitating their lies about Iraq and WMDs. So you see, their credibility with me is still pretty shaky.

What brought on the NYT's epiphany on Trump lying? Why haven't other media come out?
