2. I stand by his right to protest the horrible things going on
in this country.
And its within the rights of the business to cut ties with him over it, I would do the same to them if I was a customer of their services. |

3. and you got to be smugly superior
about the uppity black man who dared criticize his nation for the continued, historical brutalization and slaughter of African Americans. Good for you!
PS: many "Dems" on this site have perspectives much closer to Trump supporters than they realize. |

11. Nothing smug and I did not bring in race
I agree with his right to peaceful protest. I was in the military for 20 years to protect that right. It is also just as much right for a private business to cut ties with him.
Nice insult, I guess you did not see my Sig line, "fuck Trump' |

18. There are plenty of people on DU
if you put them next to one of Trump's deplorables, would remind you of the last scene with the pigs from Animal Farm.

23. It's always interesting how there is this cry to be treated as equals....
... but then any criticism is met with cries of 'racism'.
Which is it? |

8. Patriotism is still just a tool for manufacturing consent.
People who succumb to it, are ignorant and weak-minded.

10. I guess it was patriotism or just a company that doesn't need controversy
Many companies drop athletes and stars for many reasons. Ryan Locke lost 4. I am sure many more will for various reasons in the future. No I am not comparing Locke to this athlete just saying companies drop endorsers all the time.

17. Patriotism is 'politically correct' in the current political atmophere.
I agree, the company is simply acting according to its interests.

5. He should be dropped for his cheap shot on Newton
Marshall didn't get penalized for it but Marshall made a terrible cheap shot on Panthers qb Cam Newton. He likely will be fined for it.

There were four or five Broncos trying to put Cam Newton in the hospital. That is one dirty, sleazy bunch.

But alas the Silver and Black only get get two games a year with those donkey asses. No doubt some other inane sacrosanct ritual with the zebras will come up by then

6. the crypto-racists have been waiting for this moment with drool on their lips
I mean, C.K. didn't get dropped by his sponsors, so the flag-waving, authoritarian crypto-racists have been impatiently waiting for one of the athletes who dared support him to "get theirs" for disrespecting the symbol of the government that has systematically enslaved, brutalized and disenfranchised their friends, loved ones and communities. Of course they got what they wanted: this is, after all, still the USA, a nation that celebrates the murder of runaway slaves in its own national anthem.

16. Or - there are those who simply see C.K. for what he is - young & foolish.
He is in the BIG game now - the arena of ideas; time will tell where he ends up.
btw: whatever this country once was, or once allowed, part of our greatness is our willingness to learn & grow. And so, we have learned & we have grown, and the murder of runaway slaves is not now celebrated - anywhere. |
