Federal regulation of amusement park rides is nonexistant. Thanks St. Ronnie!

Consumer Product Safety Commission hasn't had the power to oversee amusement parks for 35 years, after Congress stripped its authority in 1981 as part of a package of deregulatory budget cuts.

Here's the Kansas state statute concerning amusement park rides. It calls for self-inspection by a qualified inspector once a year. There is no license requirement for an inspector.

1. Blaming Reagan doesn't make much sense.

Why didn't Clinton do anything about it? What about Obama? Are they to blame as well?

The bill died in committee.
