to delegitimize her?
I think it will be; she should have trounced that clown but only by X%.
(I know everyone has to work hard for her to win and it isn't in the bag, but I feel it is hers to lose)

(29,199 posts)I expect that the rabid right tea party assholes to start impeachment hearings right away...

(33,570 posts)we win the Senate to circumvent them.

(29,199 posts)we don't even have to win the Senate to keep her from being convicted and removed... they already know (as they did with Bill) that they can't convict.
Won't stop them from submitting articles of impeachment and having the House vote to impeach.
They have voted HOW many times to repeal Obamacare even though they know the Senate won't do anything and the President will veto it?
but a Dem Senate would really curtail their bullshit.

(29,199 posts)ever stopped the rabid right before?
We don't have to win the Senate... if we do, great, but winning the Senate won't stop them... only winning the House will stop them from impeaching Hillary.

(92,136 posts)occurred, it is the Senate that decides on the actually validity of the impeachment
Which is why I said if we control the Senate, no matter what the house did, there would be no conviction, unless of course there was a real impeachable offense, which this isn't.
You are also right on about political theater

(29,199 posts)that won't happen no matter what.
We need to win the Senate for many many other reasons.
We need to win the House and the Presidency to stop this bullshit.

(66,316 posts)They don't have the brains to think up something new. So they'll go with that.
It doesn't matter that all those investigations and hearings turned up nothing. The more we point that out to the pukers, the more they will insist that that is proof something hinky is going on.
They'll scream 'Benghazi' for eight years, and then they'll move on to their next target.

(16,984 posts)But whichever you mean, I recall that when Bill Clinton was elected president, the GOP wanted to deny Clinton a honeymoon, and the media was already posing the question "Just another failed president?" by spring of Clinton's first term.

I expect that multiplied by a thousand for Hillary, not because of anything that occurs in the election but because of the Fox Newsification of the culture and the reaction mode fomented by social media, where people can indulge their worst impulses and often do.
By the way, the link below has some interesting perspectives on the state of the Republican Party -- in 1992!

(33,570 posts)but yes elements of the media too.
The media just did an awful job with the birther bullshit, so why expect any better?

(22,031 posts)Whitewater, Bill Clinton's infidelities, misogyny, blue skies, green grass, spaghetti, goldfish...
It won't matter how absurd the subject matter and it won't matter that Roger Ailes is out at Fox News. The right wing will continue their decades-long attacks on Hillary Clinton thereby attempting to delegitimize her presidency, (should we be so fortunate). It will be as unending as what we've seen since President Obama's election. After all, just because the Republicans lost the last two presidential contests, they didn't stop their dishonest partisanship. That leopard ain't changing its fur.
Another concern is the reaction of Donald Trump's most fervid supporters. How will they behave following a Trump loss? Will those tens of millions of voters accept the electoral outcome? Will they react violently? These are real dangers and given some of the behaviors we've seen at Mr. Trump's rallies, I feel great concern for the civil discourse in our country.
Our best solution is to get out the vote and make certain that the Democratic wins throughout the ballots around the country are decisive and provide hopefully-President Clinton an unarguable mandate to govern.
except to the Repukes, no Dem win gives them a mandate, and no Repuke loss takes their mandate away.
