5. The attorney savaged thier claim. Now, not only did he

shoot somebody, but he, and his buddies, are now lying about it - and it's obvious!

7. I am so gratful for the widespread availability and use of technology that allows us to see and hear

.... what happens vs the lies told by the police.

The lies in this case are too ridiculous to be believed

3. They were confused about their job evidently. I guess it was "to protect and shoot" day.

But hey NOT police abuse, just a simple misunderstanding. Hopefully they won't get promotions for being confused about the basics of their job.

4. My guess is that the cop was trying to shoot the autistic man for not putting down his toy truck and

lying down on command, but that like most cops, he was just a lousy shot and ended up shooting the guy who was lying down with his hands in the air.

OTOH, the cop who shot was some distance away and not in any danger, so there was no reason at all to shoot in the first place, as the cop himself acknowledged when Kinsey asked why he'd shot him and the cop said, "I don't know."

Jumpy, scared, trigger-happy cops.

I think, too, that they need to trace that 911 call and go after the person who swatted these victims.

It seems that when calling 911 a lot of idiots will claim a gun is involved in the situation just because they figure that is the best way to get the cops to respond.

6. Then, WHY did they put Kingsley in hancuffs afterwards if they were trying to protect him?

And why didn't they treat his wounds?

8. Because they immediately went into CYA mode. If they shoot someone, then they have to handcuff them

to make it look as though shooting was necessary.

Also, it is part of their "protect yourself at all costs!" training--put everyone in handcuffs because everyone is a deadly threat. That is why they are so trigger-happy in the first place--because they are scared sh**less and figure everyone is ready to kill them if they don't either kill or incapacitate them first.

11. And now they're caught lying about it. This will not look good to a jury.

17. That is what the cops consider an excuse. They seem to consider

noncompliance to be a capital offense.

"Respect mah authoritah!"

13. Whatever Happened To....

I made a mistake, I'm really sorry. I don't know why I did that. I was wrong. What can I do to make it up to you. Ends an awful lot of problems. But no. Its never your fault, especially when its the police. They make mistakes (obviously), there's nothing wrong with owning them.

18. I just read this horrifying comment on a slate.com article about this incident:

Amyjoken 16 hours ago

My son Jeremy is mentally retarded and autistic. He lives at a residential school in New York City. Last summer his caretakers took a group of kids to a local park. When an ice cream truck came by, Jeremy wanted ice cream, and when told no (for good and sufficient reasons,) he laid down on the sidewalk and would not get up. Someone called the police, who handcuffed him and took him to the emergency room. When the principal of the school called to tell me what happened, I asked, "Couldn't the caretakers have explained the situation to the cops?" He replied "in the current climate, they just couldn't risk opposing the police."

Most of the caretakers at this school are black. Jeremy's favorite staff member, who loves him and has been a wonderful influence in his life, is a young black man. I am completely freaked out that this situation so closely parallels my son's, and utterly grateful that it resolved without more violence than the police handcuffing a mentally retarded man. I am embarrassed that I didn't understand how the staff had to handle it.

19. I want to say to the police commander

Your cop told you this story, and you believed it? Fuck, let me be a criminal in your town: "Halt, why are you in this business, rifling through the cash drawers?" "Uh, I think I might have lost a contact lens when I was in here before." "Oh, okay. Never mind. Go about your business."

The chief is either just that gullible and stupid, or he thinks the citizens are. Either way, I don't think he's fit for the job.
