BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. (WXIA) -- Several signs at the city limits of the small North Georgia town of Blairsville show how proud it is of its scenic location at the bottom foothills of the Appalachian Mountains near the North Carolina line.
They also show how proud the city is of its reputation as a tourist and retirement attraction.
But many in that town and in Union County are not proud to learn that the Ku Klux Klan wants an official state sponsored sign of its own put up on Highway 515.
Some local members of the International Keystone Knights of the KKK have put in an application with the Georgia Department of Transportation for an Adopt-a-Highway sign, promising to keep a one mile stretch of the highway clean and beautiful.

The bad news is the KKK can probably adopt the highway, under Yarnell v. Cuffley: SCOTUS in 2001 refused to hear Missouri's appeal of the 8th Circuit decision allowing the KKK to adopt a highway
The good news is the KKK is really just as stupid as you think they are, and they just won't do a good job picking up trash
Here's what happened in Missouri in the wake of Yarnell v. Cuffley:
Klan Booted From Highway Cleanup
A month after the U.S. Supreme Court said Missouri must allow the Ku Klux Klan to take part in an "Adopt-A-Highway" cleanup program, the state has kicked out the group, citing its failure to collect roadside litter.
"Groups are required to pick up litter four times a year in this program, and our records indicated that the Klan had not fulfilled their adoption agreement," said Missouri Department of Transportation spokeswoman Megan Casalone today. "They have never picked up anything off the highway."
Casalone said the Klan had until last Tuesday to respond to a March 20 letter informing the group it was not complying with the program rules. The KKK did not respond, she said ...

Not good this close to bedtime.
