16. Well, at least there's no Rizzo this time around
The Philadelphia police commissioner who was a racist asshole. (EDIT: Ah, Cleveland and Philly - as in RNC and DNC - I was thinking back to 1968 and wondering why you didn't also mention Detroit)
But please let's not repeat 1968 - I was only a kid, but I remember that summer. In fact, I got out of bed, went downstairs, and said to my husband last night "turn on the TV, it seems to be 1968" |

2. I have said the same earlier on but I believe things are different now with so many
murders captured on movies as documentation. In the past accusations were hearsay, not so any more.

4. This is great. This time it won't be the democrats that implode it's the repubs. I can't wait for
their convention. Sweet sweet chaos.

6. People are doing that anyway but now the shits coming to a head. You ever read the book the Fourth
Turning? We're in a transition period where the economic and social system is going to change the only question is how. People are tired of injustice and state sanctioned murder. The marches weren't working and the frustration is real. It might not be right but it's happening.

7. The Fourth Turning was a brief and favorable topic of conversation on DU some years ago.
As I remember, the premise was fairly conceivable.

9. This change now is in the form of social justice and it's only started with gay rights. Now it's
going back to traditional minority rights concerning cops because the previous 2nd turning saw the cops win after the campus protests and 1968 police riots and the rise of materialism but now we're seeing all that unravel. Trump is angering latinoes and will have white race soldiers at the convention outside doing security while black still have to deal with police brutality. Change is coming. It's getting closer as we speak.

13. Just remember....
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
There is no social justice solution to racism. Racism isn't a political or even an economic problem. It's a psychology problem. Racism occurs in our collective heads. You need social change in the way society thinks of each other and their outlook on mankind. This type of violence and racism and rhetoric we see today will make racism WORSE. It will only further lead to a divide among the social ingroups and outgroups. |

15. Nobody is going to keep asking for equality from people who keep denying their basic
humanity and right to exist. At a certain point people get tired of asking and want justice. Racism might be a soial construct but it has real consequences. What good is bridging the racial gap if you're still treated like a second class citizen in your own country by people whose jobs depend on your tax dollars?

I do know this feels terrifying, and, yes, like I'm being transported back to an even worse period of time than now.

19. Yep. History doesn't repeat itself, but sometimes it rhymes or plays harmony.
It is noticeable that these shootings are coming at shorter intervals, and becoming bigger, splashier.
