The right is so concerned with 'decay in morals' and how this will lead to the end of the empire.

Isn't it more likely that it is the decay in business morals that will destroy our way of life? (and has already in the last decade).

its a double-standard.

Better expand that eh? They are assured that their moral superiority holds higher ground, than the morals of anyone else. Surely it must be their concern to "correct" the human ballast, likely to contain..ooops -continue development for the "future".

I would be more likely to pay attention.

All empires die because of the need for economic slavery to continue the growth. Britain was given that choice, and chose freedom at home. Most empires don't. The US doesn't.

The need for consumption is what's killing the US, and the consumption of 28% of the world's goods for 5% of the population is what is going to accelerate the decline and, eventually, the fury of the impoverished, both at home and abroad.

But some folks can't seem to wrap their heads around business and personal ethics, so they fall back on "morality", which is really propiety, played by a set of rules which is so contradictory that it cannot be followed.

I have a different perspective, I guess - Comparing Clinton and Dubya - How many lives did Monica Lewinski save, per "encounter"? Comparing military and civilian casualties in military or police actions... I'm thinkin' six figures here.....
