In the year of Trump: Not so much.
With the convention less than a month away, POLITICO contacted more than 50 prominent governors, senators and House members to gauge their interest in speaking. Only a few said they were open to it, and everyone else said they werent planning on it, didnt want to, or werent going to Cleveland at all or simply didnt respond.
I am not attending, said South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy, who is overseeing the high-profile congressional Republican investigation into Hillary Clintons handling of the attacks on Benghazi. Gowdy, who said he was taking his family to the beach instead, hasnt gone to conventions in the past and didnt plan to now.

(4,940 posts)I was 11, my brother 7 - at a motel in the south. Playing outside while mom and dad got showers, and said we could go to the pool. Heard music, people laughing on the other side of a small hill. Being kids, we peeked. A typical travelling carnival, like at our church in summer.
Yep. Klan rally.
We had heard/seen TV - and ran all the way back to the motel room, little brother crying, me too scared to cry.

(23,833 posts)I'm amazed (tho' maybe I shouldn't be) that the KKK is still alive and well. I hope its numbers have lessened over the years, at least.
Yechhhhh

(25,542 posts)...engaging in an activity that requires you to dress up in ridiculous garb and hide your face while doing so, that you are doing something you shouldn't be doing?
The whole KKK thing with the costumes/uniforms and wacko "Grand Dragon" etc designations just seems so juvenile and sophomoric (with apologies to juveniles and sophomores).

(23,413 posts)The wedding was in the evening so my husband and I drove around the area during the day and saw a fair. We decided to check it out as we were parking I noticed people dressed in white and the more I focused on them I realized they were the KKK. I froze in fear and told my husband to drive away from there quickly because I am a light skinned black women I knew this was not the place for me to be. My husband is white and didn't understand why I was so anxious to get the hell out of there. It turned out we had drove to nearby Hayden Lakes which is a white supremacist area.
This picture reminded me of that incident. I laugh about it now but I was really scared that day.
I have gotten the stink eye from white racists because I look like I could be many different nationalities. I see them looking at me trying to figure out what I am. The only place that never happens to me is in Europe.

(25,542 posts)...possible to be without being albino, and I would have wanted to get the hell out of there, too.
Any endeavor that requires one to wear a costume and mask,, past the age of 12 on Halloween, means one is up to no good.

(I'm not a total geek - I had to google the name of the episode.)

(28,795 posts)weasel words. you KNOW idiots like Gowdy would head their grandmas over the head with a shovel to be up on that podium in front of the nation.
that's just how BAD they're feeling it right now. and, please, Doncom, keep feeding it with those imbecilic tweets and your always off-base reactions to the days' events, be they local, national, or international
has he weighed in on abortions yet? you KNOW, if he hasn't, that they're trying to craft something for him as I type. somehow, unless I missed it, if he was in total control, he'd be tweeting away some immediately contradictory babble. he has to, because he's been on every side of every issue, and no matter what he says, he'll contradict something he's already said
has somebody already said that? ha............

from the comments:
Every Trump sentence has words. Sometimes three words. Or two. And they're great sentences. Terrific sentences. They're great. With repeated words. Terrific repeated words. Not very big words. Every Trump sentence has words.

remember when they were beating the shit out of people on the floor, including Dan Rather at the 68 convention?
Good times!!!!
that's what cost the dems the election
I've always thought that ANY demonstration always benefits the republicans, no matter who's demonstrating, or who's beating the demonstrators
