(51,666 posts)and trees end, and a grass fire is more readily stopped IIRC.
Not sure which way the prevailing winds are going now. If it spreads south far enough, that gets it into Rist Canyon and near Horsetooth, and they had fires in more recent years so the brush isn't so built up nor so many dead trees standing.

(24,146 posts)it was moving north this morning, swung south late today and, based on the new evacuations, i think they're expecting it to move more to the south.
i'm in fort collins and some of my friends are acting like it's on this side of the hogback. still a lot of ground, as well as a reservoir, to cross to get to us. and, like you pointed out, it'll be a grassfire by the time it even gets close. they are easier to stop.
